Job Summary

Maintain and repair all life safety equipment to support University Research one status. Implements and performs the Preventive Maintenance Program Applicable to Life Safety Systems at all campuses.

  • Performs a variety of operating and Life Safety/Utility System duties to ensure that the University equipment is maintained adequately to sustain an educational and working environment. Interfaces with other maintenance staff assigned to this shift to accomplish job assignments. Performs prescheduled preventive maintenance on fire alarms and related equipment; air compressors; emergency generators; elevators, back flow preventers; domestic water pumps; lift stations; hot water heaters and associated re-circulating pumps; vacuum pumps; and electrical motors. Maintain loading dock lifts and Gas Systems.
  • Responsible for working off shift after hours to perform shut downs and emergency repair of Life Safety and Utility System equipment. Assists in calls from Public Safety or the University community regarding emergency conditions related to the equipment mentioned above. Provides access to University building equipment rooms to contractors for repairs at all campuses.
  • Conducts general cleaning of equipment and mechanical rooms.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to transport materials and equipment needed to perform the job tasks required by this position.
  • Completes preventive maintenance logs, records and reports. Assists the Life Safety/Utility Systems supervisor in ordering of parts as to maintain proper inventory of parts. Consults Supervisor to summon contract company repair person(s) if unable to repair or if temporary repairs will not last until next shift arrives.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for mechanical trades or a high school diploma and two (2) years of appropriate experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License CDL - Class E
Desired Qualifications

  • Certification as a Fire Alarm System Agent (FASA), Notifer certified and Florida Fire Protection certified (preferred).
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance of elevators.
  • Experience performing diagnostic electrical issues; making minor repairs to motor controls and pumps.
  • Background or knowledge of one or more of the following system, fire alarms, fire sprinkler systems, hot water heaters (boilers), elevators, lift stations, gas systems.
  • Background or knowledge of one or more of the following mechanical systems; air compressors, vacuum pumps, dock lifts, domestic water systems, back flows, emergency generators.
