Job Title: Chief Risk Officer (North America)

Division: Risk and Compliance

Reports To: Group CRO

Key Relationships: Executive and non-Executive members of North America Boards and Risk Committees, and relevant group stakeholders.

Job Summary: To be accountable to Group CRO and North America leadership for oversight and implementation of the Risk Management Framework. To enhance the quality of decision making through providing risk based challenge and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Overall activities are managed at Group level, the CRO is responsible for setting and monitoring them for North America (NA).

  • Oversee the implementation and oversight of the Risk Management Framework in North America and ensures its appropriateness.
  • Enhance the quality of decision making through risk reporting, including regular risk reporting and ORSA reporting.
  • Perform the role of second line of defence, providing risk oversight and challenge.
  • Promote an appropriate risk culture by maintaining a robust control environment that is owned and documented by the business.
  • Provide critical appraisal of the control environment proposed by the business with reference to the agreed risk appetite and provide recommendations to the business and management.
  • Work with other risk experts in the 2nd line and the business to ensure risks (including emerging risks) are appropriately identified and managed.
  • Prepare or review the risk management sections of reports and accounts.
  • Manage and assess the financial impact on the firm associated with climate change, including reporting to the board and its sub-committees on the progress of implementing a plan and ongoing reporting on the financial impact of climate change.
  • Assess the financial impact as a result of climate change as part of Beazley's business planning process in their capacity as CRO.

Skills and Knowledge Specification:

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Proven experience of leading in significant risk management roles.
  • Experience of working with c-suite management and executive teams.
  • In-depth regulator relations experience in an insurance-related organisation.
  • Strong regulatory and market best practice knowledge, particularly that relevant to risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of both property and casualty insurance industry.
  • Strong general commercial and financial knowledge.

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $190,000 - $210,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus.
