Sr. Director - Manufacturing Projects Job Description Summary - A Sr. Director for Large Multi-Capital Projects Program Senior leadership role responsible for overseeing a portfolio of significant capital projects. This role ensures that projects are executed successfully within budget, on time, and to the highest standards of quality, while also aligning with the organization's strategic goals.The Sr. Director - Manufacturing Projects is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of large-scale, multi-capital projects from initiation to completion for a $500 million CAPEX program. This includes managing a team of project managers and other stakeholders, ensuring all projects align with organizational goals, and maintaining focus on safety, quality, compliance, customer qualifications and project financial performance. The role involves strategic planning, budgeting, risk management, and client/stakeholder relations. This position demands a highly skilled, strategic thinker with a comprehensive understanding of large-scale project execution, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to balance multiple complex priorities within a heavy manufacturing environment. Primary Responsibilities for the Sr. Director - Manufacturing Projects: Leadership & Strategy:
- Provide executive oversight for a portfolio of large-scale capital projects, ensuring all projects align with business objectives.
- Establish and communicate the strategic vision for the program to internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and motivate a team of project managers and cross-functional teams to execute projects efficiently and effectively.
- Oversee project planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning for multiple projects.
- Ensure that each project is completed within the defined scope, schedule, and budget.
- Monitor and report on the progress of each project, addressing issues and risks proactively.
- Develop and manage budgets for the entire project program, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
- Monitor financial performance, track cost expenditures, and identify areas for cost savings.
- Provide monthly financial and performance updates to senior management and stakeholders.
- Identify and mitigate risks across the project portfolio, ensuring safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices for project execution.
- Develop and implement strategies to address project challenges, delays, or budgetary issues.
- Act as the primary point of contact for escalation of issues with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure cross functional teams alignment and on time project deliverables including production ramp and product qualifications across all associated manufacturing sites. Organization interactions include, but are not limited to; technical, metallurgy, engineering, commercial, operations, and planning.
- Maintain effective communication with executive leadership, ensuring alignment with overall corporate goals.
- Negotiate with external parties to secure contracts and manage relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ensure that all projects meet the highest standards of quality and performance, monitoring construction methods and results.
- Implement and enforce quality control systems and processes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop performance metrics and use data to drive continuous improvement across all projects.
- Provide detailed status reports, including risk assessments, to executives and project stakeholders.
- Analyze project outcomes to ensure the program is delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Ensure the effective use of resources across projects, balancing competing demands and project priorities.
- Foster a collaborative environment, providing mentorship and guidance to the project management team.
- Promote professional development within the team and ensure sufficient training and support are provided.
Required for the Sr. Director - Manufacturing Projects:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field required.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) or other relevant certifications (e.g., LEED, Six Sigma) are highly desirable.
- Previous experience of successfully completing a complex multi-CAPEX project/program exceeding $100M within a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Strong construction management/execution knowledge and construction negotiating skills regarding change management.
- 10+ years of experience in managing large, complex capital projects, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or program management role.
- Proven experience in multi-disciplinary project environments, managing various project types simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise in project management methodologies, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and safety standards.
- Proficient in project management software and other relevant tools.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Full-time position, typically based at the office with frequent site visits and meetings with stakeholders.
- Some flexibility in working hours may be required, especially during critical project phases.
