The Detroit office of Weber Shandwick is looking for a corporate communications leader to join our automotive practice to drive key client programs. In this role, you will be responsible for helping clients design and implement strategic communications programs to a range of audiences, with particular attention on internal communications.

This position requires being strategically rooted in our clients' business in order to balance creativity and effectiveness when it comes to programming activations. You'll engage with colleagues from many offices and practices and establish trusting relationships with clients. Some travel is necessary. While officially part of the agency's Detroit office, we will consider qualified candidates who must work remotely from other U.S. locations.

Responsibilities

CLIENT AND WORK



  • Liaises with clients and assists in client communications, including developing and coordinating routine account management materials, including timelines, activity reports, client documentation and project management support, as appropriate for size of account or office
  • Partners with diverse, cross-functional teams to ensure strong execution of programs in support of the client business objectives
  • Supports creative ideation on a consistent basis and provides thoughtful recommendations o Develops communication and media materials, and conducts media outreach (social media posts, fact sheets, pitch emails, backgrounders)
  • Develops targeted media lists and learn/follow clients' priority media: top-tier, trade, a diverse mix of social influencers, etc.
  • Conducts research on a wide range of issues, reviews and prepare executive summaries and/or analyses of information, as appropriate for size of account or office
  • Monitors, analyzes and develops client coverage reports, leveraging industry measurement and listening tools to identify opportunities for growth and strategic evolution
  • Proactively identifies issues and recommends solutions based on category or competitive activity
  • Keeps pace with social media / digital industry trends and developments

  • Works effectively alone and with team members and is familiar with digital collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
  • Serves as role model to team members, producing high quality work and continually updating manager on activity progress
  • Proactively contributes to inclusive team culture and consistently displays behaviors that support integration


BUSINESS ACUMEN



  • Grows understanding of financial aspects of accounts by supporting budget tracking and invoicing, maintaining fee and out-of-pocket trackers, and submitting purchase orders
  • Supports a healthy account and business through accurate time entry
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of clients' business and industry
  • Familiarity with SOW in order to flag any out-of-scope client requests to manager


GROWTH AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT



  • Leverages understanding of client's business to share ideas to help grow the account organically
  • Participates in meetings to support new business development/organic business growth opportunities as directed, including capturing notes, recaps, research, updating trackers and timelines (proactive/reactive pitches)
  • Develops new business acumen through supporting the development of pitch materials and shadowing elements of a pitch


Qualifications



  • BA or BS in Journalism, Business, Communications or related degree
  • 1-2 years relevant experience
  • Strong interest in corporate communications and automotive o Agency-side experience a big plus, but not essential
  • Strong verbal and written communications and client management skills

Michigan Salary range: $50,000 - $55,000

Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position; market considerations; budgetary considerations; tenure and standing with the company (applicable to current employees); as well as the employee's/applicant's background, pertinent experience, and qualifications.
