Position Purpose |
Prepares, maintains, monitors and repairs the athletic facilities, indoor and outdoor fields and equipment, including the setup for a variety of athletic events or special events which will include making minor non-structural, unskilled carpentry, electrical, non-potable water plumbing, touch-up painting, or mechanical functions repairs on athletic equipment, program areas and supplies with minimal supervision. - Four to six years of relevant experience
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools, equipment, some power tools and shift-type vehicles
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Must have basic mathematical skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities in all kinds of weather
- Willingness to work overtime and/or nights and weekends.
- Must be able to communicate with and understand the need for solid public relations with a diverse community, including administrators, coaches, faculty, vendors, visitors, the general public, etc.
Working Conditions
- Work requires bending, kneeling, climbing and working in cramped or awkward positions.
- Work involves regular lifting, carrying and holding objects weighing from 25 to 150 lbs.
- Work is performed: indoors, outdoors, in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty or dusty.
- Work involves exposure to hazards from electrical shock, burns, cuts and exhaust fumes.
- Work involves wearing special or protective clothing such as: gloves, goggles or masks and ear plugs.
Must have successfully completed the following training prior to performing work to which the training relates as required by
EHS. These include but not limited to:
- Safety (EHS training)
- Laboratory safety/Hazardous Waste Mgmt. training
- Asbestos Awareness Training
- Fall Protection
- Bloodborne Pathogen Training for Non-Research Employees.
- Lock out/tag out.

Key Accountabilities
Description |
General Maintenance
- Maintains the grounds and interior program areas and administrative athletic buildings for all indoor and outdoor athletic facilities and field houses including athletic events or special events.
- Hang/mount with wall anchors as needed: pictures, TV's, whiteboards, shelving, signs, etc in all athletic spaces.
- Assemble or disassemble and/or move existing furniture or materials and construct equipment and shelving in office, administrative, locker or team rooms, etc
- Makes minor repairs to equipment or vehicles, including day to day maintenance and emergency troubleshooting and repairs (for example, but not limited to, reattachment of the blade and straightening/balancing of the carriage conditioner on the Zamboni).
- Patch walls, fix holes and defects from wall-hung items; use sandpaper to smooth rough surfaces
- Touch up paint stain or patched areas until painting can be completed by FO&M
- Adhere vinyl stickers or tint to walls or windows
- Non-structural repairs to bleachers, seating, chain link fences
- Leaf and debris clean up inside and outside of immediate surrounding areas
- Assist FO&M staff working during athletic events if needed

Description |
Sport Specific Fields Maintenance
Ice Rink
- Installs, maintains and monitors rink ice to specifications.
- Maintains resulting equipment, spectator seating, protective glass surrounding rink, cabling system, ice making equipment, etc.
- Paints ice rink lines and logos, paints ice surface white.
- May operate Zamboni for ice maintenance.
Tracks/Fields
- Prepares and maintains baseball, football, softball, lacrosse, field hockey and other indoor/outdoor practice and competition fields and the resulting equipment, wall padding, spectator seating, etc.
- Layout field dimensions, lines and rolls athletic fields according to the sports rules and regulations. Repairs divots and maintains grounds.
- Groom indoor and outdoor artificial turf fields if grounds crew is unable to accommodate.
- Prepare and maintain track facilities including but not limited to installation of track railing, hurdles, pole vault pit, high jump pit, including amending the sand. Mark courses.
- Maintain surrounding areas repairing hazardous areas, removing brush, cleaning track, etc.
- Set-up for events such as set up of bleachers, timing system, turf, caging, etc.
- Assist with setting up scoreboard control panels and microphones as needed
Indoor Court
- Prepares basketball, volleyball, or squash competitive areas for practices, games, tournaments, etc. This may include minor electrical, carpentry, plumbing or mechanical functions.
- Assist with setting up scoreboard control panels and microphones as needed.
Outdoor Tennis Courts
- Prepares and maintains the outdoor clay courts by scarifying, leveling, installing required quantities of fast-dry material, laying out and resetting tennis tapes, rolling, etc. This may include minor electrical, carpentry, plumbing or mechanical functions. Must clean courts daily when in use.
- Repair/replace irrigation lines in clay tennis courts.
Special Events and Athletic Program Support
- Sets up facilities for a variety of programs including athletics, contests, etc. in gyms, Field House or other arenas for special events and activities sponsored by the College or other organizations renting space from the College. Set-up includes PA systems, athletic equipment, ticket booths, bleachers, flooring, tables, etc.
- Provides on-site support during major athletic contests.
