Your Role As a Gensler Model Shop Manager, you are responsible for managing the daily operation of both New York Office's Model Shop while developing models and providing instructional service to Gensler staff. You are highly organized individual who is capable of multi-tasking while also demonstrating attention to detail and appreciation for quality. You will be responsible for proper maintenance and trouble-shooting equipment, making sure the model shop is fully equipped and stocked while maintaining the highest level of safety protocol. Our Model Shop Manager will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. What You Will Do
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for expanding knowledge and a drive to constantly improve
- Seeks-out opportunities to expand the role of fabrication in architectural practice
- A high degree of self-motivation, flexibility and resourcefulness
- Must be motivated to work closely with multiple project teams simultaneously to elevate architectural design through model-making and full-scale prototyping
- Lead facilities cleanliness and organization to maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Perform routine maintenance of all shop tools including laser cutters, CNC, 3d printers, spray booth, shop utility systems, wood working machinery, and fabrication aids
- Maintain an overview of all equipment service contracts and coordination for service visits
- Manage all shop related material inventory, ordering and organization
- Lead shop improvements including but not limited to space organization, signage and guide creation, protocol development and implementation
- Train and mentor others in the proper use of the shop facilities and equipment
- Ensure shop users adhere to shop protocol and safety procedures
Your Qualifications
- Proficiency in Rhino /CAD, Adobe Suite and relevant 3d printing, laser cutting, CNC milling software
- Architectural / Design background
- Possess strong digital and traditional fabrication skills including woodworking/ model making
- Has prior experience operating a model shop, fab lab or similar maker space
- Knowledge of adhesives, fasteners, paints, finishes, model making/building materials, etc. required
- Expert knowledge of architectural model making preferred
- Be organized, structured and both big-picture-savvy & detail-oriented
- Are capable of multi-tasking (often varying in scale and scope)
- Can demonstrate an enthusiasm for creative problem solving
- Has self-confidence and persistence, and is confident with decision making
- Can demonstrate an attention to detail, and an appreciation for quality
- Is proactive and who also completes tasks with a sense of urgency
- Demonstrate ability to work independent and prioritize multiple tasks with limited supervision
- Has excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- 15+ years of related experience within an AEC environment
The base salary range will be estimated between $100k-125k plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
