Reports to: Quality Manager

Rousselot is the world's leading producer of gelatin and is a recognized partner in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

The Dubuque facility has an opening for a Lab Technician. This role is responsible for performing routine physical, chemical and microbiological testing on gelatin samples.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The Rousselot plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position requires day shift work. Occasional weekend work on a rotating schedule and occasional overtime will be a requirement for this position.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Four year degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology or a related subject.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Manufacturing Lab experience
  • HPLC, ICP, Molecular weight, Proximate Analysis, Titrations, Media Preparation, troubleshooting instrumentation experience
  • ISO, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma

Job Duties:

  • Collect and prepare various gelatin and/or raw material samples for testing.
  • Perform laboratory tests, including microbiological, chemical and physical in accordance with written procedures.
  • Identify non-conforming product and confer with management.
  • Accurately record data via lab report & log books.
  • Accurately enter test data into computer based LIMS system.
  • Perform weekend/Holiday rotation including routine micro and chemical/physical testing.
  • Perform and report special tests such as those required by customers according to their specifications.
  • Prepare media and stock solutions required for performing tests; maintain lab supply inventories.
  • Keep work area, supplies, glassware and other equipment clean, organized and properly cared for.
  • Calibrate or verify lab equipment, when appropriate.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Perform Environmental Monitoring tasks including swabbing, and communicate results.
  • Assist others as needed.
