TEAM UP WITH US! The CAD Drafter is responsible for providing drafting support for specialized Production Power products. Develops 3D models and 2D drawings using Autodesk software. This position will produce new drawings and revise existing drawings that are used in packaging Caterpillar equipment. This position will use a combination of existing drawings, vendor supplied drawings, and new drawings to develop complete drawing sets that can be used to fabricate and package equipment. DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES? WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Create and maintain models for standard components and create models for custom components as required.
- Create and maintain procedures and specifications related to drafting function. Follows drafting standard practices.
- Uses existing project tracking software to record and document progress on drafting project requests.
- Maintain awareness and knowledge of technological advances in CAD hardware, software and industry trends.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to CAD applications. This is done independently, with technical support, or with the assistance of the IT Dept.
- Beta-testing of latest software release, including but not limited to Inventor, CADWorx, Mechanical Desktop, Advanced Pressure Vessel.
- Acts as liaison with manufacturers, customers, and vendors of software and application products, especially with regard to problem diagnosis and resolution. Working with the IT Department as needed.
- Works with manager and the IT Department as needed to plan and execute software version upgrade releases and custom interfaces.
- Migrate and test standard components and templates to latest software release prior to implementation.
- Work with IT Department to ensure hardware platforms meet application requirements.
- Work with Information Technology Department to install software and user utilities for modifications and upgrades of operating systems and workstation environments.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Requires a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of Computer Aided Design software.
- Understanding of fabrication process, including materials, assembling components, and design.
- Basic understanding of ASME Section VIII Division 1(Pressure Vessel section), ASME B31.3 (Process Piping) and B31.8 (Gas Transmission & Distribution Piping Systems).
- Basic understanding of natural gas engines, diesel engines, reciprocating and rotary screw compressors.
- Basic comprehension of P&IDs (symbols, process flow).
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures.
- Thorough understanding of all company safety, environmental, and practices.
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English.
- Ability to analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, manufacturer's literature, and customer and company specifications.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and co-workers.
- Ability to write instructions and information on drawings and diagrams that conforms to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to customers and co-workers.
- Computer Skills:
- AutoCAD 2006 or later experience
- Inventor 11 Professional or later experience
- CADWorx P&ID experience
- Microsoft Excel and Word software
- Solidworks
