Seaward Services is seeking a Master for our Explorer operation.

About the Opportunity:

The Vessel Master creates and supports an environment, which provides the highest level of guest, and crew safety. They promote and maintain the utmost integrity and the highest standard of customer service to all patrons/employees of Seaward Services, Inc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Safely operate vessel as required within USCG and Company guidelines and regulations
  • Command vessel in a fashion appropriate to best practices and in accordance with all local and federal regulations.
  • Ensure that the vessel(s) is always in a condition that will support safe operation
  • Provides highest standards of navigation, remaining fully aware of multiple issues; including other vessel traffic, sea conditions, visibility and other important environmental factors
  • Assure that the appropriate trained crew are aboard and assigned to the Watch Quarter Station Bill as per USCG regulations and company operating procedures
  • Perform all required pre-boarding and disembarkation duties as outlined by company policy
  • Perform all vessel underway duties as outlined by company policy
  • Ensure vessel has all required charts and publications for service route, if applicable
  • Supervise and confirm proper and safe mooring of the vessel to provide the appropriate level of safeguarding the significant capital investment
  • Participate in the process of interviewing, training and evaluation of Relief Captains, Mates, AB's and other deck department personnel
  • Operate and manage vessel within legal requirements of USCG, FCC, Class Society and other pertinent regulatory agencies
  • Compile, review and maintain vessel logs, reports and forms as required by law and company policy
  • Serve as onboard Risk Manager and take corrective actions per company policy and as critical situations require
  • Provide for the safety and appropriate training of marine and non-marine crew
  • Maintain a strong interest in the vessel, its crew, guests and equipment and manage it accordingly
  • Participate in maintenance and update of Operations Manual in consultation with Operations Manager or Senior Project Manager
  • Conduct drills with Marine and Non-marine crew as mandated by company policy and regulations
  • Conduct Safety audits both as mandated by company policy and as circumstances require. Supervise the coordination of corrective action indicated as a result of safety audits
  • Monitor, review and where necessary schedule Mariners to ensure that proper manning levels are maintained and that pertinent laws, regulations and guidelines are followed
  • Ensure that performance and behavior of Officers and crew meet legal and professional requirements
  • Provide discipline for infractions of policy by crewmembers under supervision of Master. Consult with the Operations Manager with regard to infractions by crewmembers
  • Additional job duties as assigned.


Requirements & Qualifications:



  • Unlimited Ocean Master - USCG License OR Master OSV Greater than 1600 GRT/3000GT OR Master OSV 10,000 Tons
  • Radar Endorsement with ARPA
  • ECDIS Endorsement
  • GMDSS Certificate
  • Full STCW Compliance
  • United States Citizen
  • Valid Passport
  • Capability to earn US Government Secret Clearance
