Responsibilities
Summary Under the direction of the Programs Manager, the Case Manager provides counseling services, assists the residents in adjusting to the facility life and obtaining needed services or changes in assignment. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Interviews and completes an admission assessment or any other evaluation of a child for placement. Develops detailed knowledge of those assigned to specific caseload.
- Develops, reviews, and updates service plans for a child/resident in care.
- Resolves daily resident problems, complaints and concerns with general counseling techniques. Refers residents with serious problems to professional staff.
- Completes a discharge or transfer summary for a child/resident.
- Conducts individual meetings with resident to provide assistance with rehabilitation program, housing-related challenges.
- Makes daily assigned unit visits to ensure informal contact with residents and interaction with Resident Advisors.
- Inspects units for cleanliness and adherence to security practices.
- Assists in logging and distributing legal and certified mail and coordinate resident telephone sign-up list.
- Serves as an active participant on the classification teaming committee meetings to determine assigned housing, in addition to appropriate work and rehabilitation programs. May serve on the discipline committee.
- Provides assistance to the resident in obtaining needed services. Serves as a representative for the resident at classification committee meetings as requested.
- Approves any restrictions that will be imposed on a child/resident for more than seven days that have not been reviewed and approved by the treatment director or service planning team, and any monthly re-evaluations of restrictions that continues for more than 30 days.
- Approves any restrictions to communication and visitation with the child's/resident's family that are imposed on a child/resident, but have not been reviewed and approved by the treatment director or service planning team, including monthly re-evaluations of restrictions that continue for more than 30 days.
- Approves any restrictions to a particular room or building for more than 24 hours that are imposed on a child/resident, but have not been reviewed and approved by the treatment director or service planning team.
- Maintains appropriated documentation of resident daily contacts as detailed in the agency program procedures
- Assists the Resident Advisor with the security inspection of the living unit to ensure sanitary and security policies of the facility are adhered to.
- Assists with intake functions as needed.
- May assist Transportation Officer on an as needed basis in gender specific transportation.
- Assists Unit Manager as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferable in a social services field OR five (5) years full time work experience in a detention operation or related field.
- Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate actions.
- Ability to greet and deal tactfully with the general public.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others, interpret and articulate rules, orders, instructions and materials, and able to compose reports that contain the information as required.
- Must demonstrate sound judgement and an even temperament when completing assignments.
- Ability to maintain self-control during situations that involve mental stress.
- Any other duties assigned.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
