Job Description Organizes and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy programs in the hospital to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part; helps patient reach his maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of his/her capabilities Job Responsibility * * * * * * * * * * 1. Plans therapy program for each patient, involving physical means, such as exercise, massage, heat, water, light and electricity, as prescribed by physician. 2. Applies diagnostic and prognostic muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests. 3. Directs and aids patient in active and passive exercises, muscle reeducation, and gait and functional training, utilizing pulleys and weights, steps and inclined surfaces. 4. Gives whirlpool and contrast baths and applies moist packs. 5. Directs patient in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, canes, crutches, and prosthetic and orthotic devices. 6. Gives instruction in posture control and therapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient. 7. Adapts conventional physical therapy techniques to meet the need of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises. 8. Evaluates, records, and reports on patient's progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative team. 9. Requisitions supplies and equipment. 10. Conducts or participates in training medical and nursing personnel other workers in physician therapy techniques and objectives. 11. Keeps abreast of developments in the physical therapy field; introduces and demonstrates to staff members new techniques, equipments and research findings. 12. Performs related duties, as required Job Qualification * Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy, required. Master's Degree, preferred. * Must be currently licensed as a Physical Therapist in New York State. |
