The Opportunity

The International Business Leader is responsible for the (further) development of markets on an international level, including the identification of market opportunities and portfolio gaps. The IBL position will be responsible for managing a team and portfolio to; establish strong partnership with other Roche entities to define near term and long term aligned assay roadmap for sequencing, new and emerging sequencing technology / application roadmap and delivery across all indications, supporting on market portfolio by engaging with affiliates and customers as required, drive strategy of new and emerging PCR technologies / applications roadmap and represent our Molecular diagnostics capabilities for internal and external customers and pharma partnering across all technologies / all indications (eg. oncology, cardiovascular, neurology, NIPT, etc). The candidate will need to have a deep understanding of molecular diagnostic technologies and key disease areas, specifically oncology. A key aspect of this role is the ability to work across a diverse portfolio with a wide breadth of technologies, disease areas.

As the International Business Leader (IBL) for Oncology & Genetics you will be responsible for driving the incorporation and on market direction and support for a wide breadth of products and portfolio strategies and roadmaps across the molecular diagnostic spectrum, including but not limited to PCR, digital PCR, next generation sequencing (established and emerging technologies). In addition, this position will be central to bringing together clinical insights and reporting linking technology, applications, clinical insights/medical knowledge, and IT/software to PCR and sequencing application strategies. This will require the candidate to effectively work within the Oncology & Genetics LCT as well as across other LCTs and Divisions (eg. Roche Informatics Solutions, Foundation Medicine, etc) partnering with the key strategic partners to develop aligned strategies on application based solutions that drive value for customers. In addition, you will be responsible for engaging, guiding, and collaborating with our Pharma Partners as part of the Pharma Partnering Business to maximize use of our applications to support the partnerships and win business.

The candidate will be a key interface in translating customer and business needs, as well as strategy across the breadth of molecular systems at Roche into clear priorities for the International Business Team (IBT), so as to guide the focus of the IBT's experts and squads. As such, you will closely work with the Customer Area/Disease Area Networks/Pharma Partnering Business, the corresponding Functional Partners who link to IBTs, as well as collaborate across Networks to deliver comprehensive and successful Customer Solutions.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

The key accountabilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Creates, sets and actively shapes the long term strategic vision for the LCT

  • Develops and implements the Global Marketing Plan also in an ambiguous environment (regulatory, processes) . Develops and implements all marketing elements of the Plan. Periodically refines the strategic business, launch and marketing plans

  • Partners with internal entities to develop and drive aligned, competitive assay/application strategies to deliver near term and long term value

  • Manages the rolling global LCT marketing budget. Recommends budgetary adjustments in response to internal/external influences

  • Leads organizational level initiatives across Customer Areas and is accountable for the cross CA business strategy

  • Serves as the global marketing / business function lead on the LCT and heads the International Business Team (IBT) & is the primary point of contact for affiliates & other business areas for questions about the overall LCT/IBT product portfolio and can routinely proxy for the LCL

  • Is accountable for the commercial success and systematic development of the respective complex and strategically important product portfolio

  • Acts as key interface for portfolio related topics across all stakeholders

  • Leads, coaches and manages employees while enabling and fostering their development. Cultivate a Great Place to Work

  • Identifies new market opportunities and manages market risks ; manages the execution of all business-related plans - including branding, positioning, message strategy, pricing, PR/Communications, publications, congresses, etc

  • Is responsible for managing and influencing senior leadership

Who You Are

  • University degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or Life Science e.g. MSc ideally combined with a MBA

  • 10+ years of progressive related global business and commercial experience in leadership positions preferably in diagnostics/medical devices eg. healthcare providers, IVD industry and/ or laboratories

  • Brings strong leadership & people management skills, consistently demonstrating the Roche Leadership Commitments applying VACC acting as mentor to other IBLs

  • Is able to lead and influence internal cross-functional matrix teams and senior stakeholders, including senior leadership across business areas, global functions (in regions and affiliates), building vision and strategy, driving and influencing others for results

  • Has excellent analytical skills and ability to address topics in a structured manner, strong communication skills

  • Recognized strong leadership and partnering capabilities (eg. ability to partner with internal and external parties to define strategy

  • Operates in ambiguous environment (regulatory, processes)

  • Creates, sets and actively shapes long term business strategic vision for the LCT

  • Leads IPM team covering a mix of products in various stages of maturityand is accountable for cross CA business strategy

Location: The preferred location for this position is onsite at our Pleasanton, CA campus; however, we are open to considering qualified remote candidates based in the United States.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Pleasanton, CA is between $221,800 and $412,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
