GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the guidance of the doctor, the Vision Therapy Technician will provide visual therapytechniques and rehabilitation services to patients withbinocular vision difficulties. Assist the doctor in assessing a patient's needs and create a treatment or rehab plan based on guidance from the doctor.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Complete diagnostic testing on patients to include optometry equipment and perceptual testing as needed per doctor authorization.
  • Document therapy sessions and plan exercises for future visits based on guidance from the doctor.
  • Explain therapy expectations with parents, doctors, and patients to successfully plan sessions.
  • Facilitate therapy session with patients in accordance with guidance from the doctor.
  • Teach patients (and/or parents/guardians) the activities that either develop or improve a visual skill and visual processing.

    • Work one on one with individuals to improve visual function using non-surgical activities.
    • Demonstrate exercises to help a patient regain eye function after a surgical or non-surgical procedure.
    • Provide home activities and feedback to patients (and/or parents/guardians) at the end of each session.


  • Collect and document patient results.
  • Schedule future appointments with patients.
  • Communicate patient information to doctor.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fun environment for therapy to take place.
  • Other duties assigned.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of office experience in a healthcare setting
  • Must be willing and able to study and learn how to become a vision therapy technician
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening, presentation) with ability to exercise patience and connect with children
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with ability to multitask
  • Proven ability to identify issues and solve problems
  • Familiarity with exam software and optometric equipment



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Certified Optometric Vision Therapist (COVT)
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Previous experience in vision therapy, occupational therapy, child development, psychology or other medical rehabilitation field
  • Previous experience in teaching, education, and special education
  • Experience working in multiple doctor practices

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
