Sabathani Community Center (SCC) is a 58-year-old African American institution and nonprofit serving a multi-cultural community of 50,000 community members in South Minneapolis. SCC was founded in 1966 by a handful of concerned community members seeking to address social and economic disparities in underserved communities in the areas of youth programming, housing, health and education. Wages & Benefits

$32.45 per hour; generous paid time off (PTO), plus 11 paid holidays and two floating holidays; competitive health, dental, and vision insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA), and options for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). There is employer paid basic life insurance with the option for additional coverage paid by the employee. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) and short- and long-term disability insurance. SCC sponsors a retirement plan with 4% employer match and immediate vesting.

Schedule

This position will work in a hybrid capacity with some night and weekend commitments.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as Sabathani's Site Supervisor provides an opportunity to be responsible for the overall supervision of Outreach Workers and Violence Interrupters, assign daily canvassing schedules, and monitor database input. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Planning the day-to-day and week-to-week activities with and for the outreach staff.
  • Planning and holding daily meetings to review current shootings and assessing what additional interventions are needed.
  • Connecting with additional resources from neighboring communities (e.g., group mediation assistance) to get needed support, when necessary.
  • Supervising staff of outreach workers, including daily communication with each staff member.
  • Outreaching to the community to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups.
  • Coordinating interview panels to hire outreach staff.
  • Attending weekly supervision meetings.
  • Advocating for youth through court testimonies, when necessary.
  • Increasing staff visibility when shootings/killings are taking place (developing networks with other outreach program workers to coordinate an inclusive and immediate strategic response).
  • Exploring the causes of shootings/killings to assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups (working with the community, outreach programs, and local law enforcement to gain information that may be helpful in preventing additional killings).
  • Identifying and diffusing "hot spots" for shootings and violence (conducting visual surveys with residents and community organizations to identify areas frequented by potential offenders).
  • Attending and participating in meetings with community outreach workers and agencies providing opportunities, to discuss recent situations and coordinating efforts collectively to stop the killing.
  • Facilitating violence prevention and life skills workshops in local schools, parks, and community organizations.
  • Documenting detailed client case notes and overall coordination of all staff reports.


Who You Are



  • You are a resident of or have a deep connection to South Minneapolis.
  • You possess a high School diploma or GED, plus four years of experience in youth development, violence prevention, and case management.
  • You have extensive experience working with at-risk youth and adults.
  • You have experience and/or training in crisis intervention and staff supervision.
  • Your communication skills are excellent and you can demonstrate proficiency in writing.
  • Preferably, you hold a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Sabathani's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.
