Position Summary

The Senior Advocacy Specialist plays a critical role in developing and executing advocacy strategies that align with the company's business objectives, regulatory priorities, and public affairs agenda. This position is responsible for researching and synthesizing information to create persuasive advocacy materials, lead issue-based campaigns, and ensure alignment with corporate goals.

Reporting to the Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs, the Specialist works closely with internal teams, industry associations, and external stakeholders to effectively represent the company's interests across the North American legislative and regulatory landscape.

Job Description

1. Advocacy Strategy and Execution:



  • Design and implement advocacy strategies for both food and protective businesses.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments; maintain organized, accessible databases of key issues.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities and align advocacy efforts with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent and coordinated messaging.


2. Policy Analysis & Communication:



  • Develop position papers, policy briefs, and advocacy materials on critical issues.
  • Use reputable data sources to provide economic and technical support for company positions.
  • Translate complex policy and regulatory topics into clear, actionable insights.
  • Draft executive level talking points, narratives, presentations, and briefing documents.


3. Stakeholder Engagement:



  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with policymakers, government officials, industry groups, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Represent the company in coalitions, industry forums, and policy discussions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams-including legal, R&D, marketing, communications, and sustainability-to ensure alignment and integration of advocacy efforts.


4. Campaigns & Public Affairs Initiatives



  • Lead issue-based advocacy campaigns to promote key policy priorities.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Communications to ensure message consistence and alignment.
  • Coordinate site visits for elected officials to company and customer facilities.
  • Support the development of messaging and materials that amplify advocacy campaigns.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in a technical, economics, legal, or business field preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in areas such as government affairs, sustainability reporting, data analysis or regulatory policy.
  • Proven ability to craft clear, fact-based narratives to educate and influence stakeholders on legislative or regulatory issues.
  • Familiarity with packaging materials, policy development processes, or regulatory environments is a plus.
  • Experience engaging with government agencies, advocacy groups or trade associations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective project management skills and experience working cross-functionally in fast-paced environments.
  • Location: Charlotte, NC -- minimum two days per week in-office preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Valid driver's license required.
