Job Summary

GateWay Community College (GWCC) Library seeks an innovative, dynamic, and deeply knowledgeable library professional to serve as Librarian. The person hired for this role will be responsible for coordination, implementation, and assessment of information literacy instruction that supports both face-to-face and online learners. They will be responsible for the majority of online and in person instruction. They will develop and maintain research guides on the LibGuide platform. They will also perform reference instruction services both in person and online. The person in this position will work with instructors to embed open educational resources and library subscription content into course materials. As library faculty, the person hired for this role will participate in college and district wide programs and committees.

The expected start date for this position is August 2025.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinate information literacy services to support both face-to-face and online learners, including creating online instructional materials and learning objectives to increase student engagement.
  • Implement and assess the library's instructional program(s), and communicate expertise in instructional technology best practices to the team.
  • Create and integrate instructional content such as tutorials, learning activities, videos and self-paced lessons, etc. into our course management system, Canvas, as well as during face-to-face instruction.
  • Participate in reference rotation including evenings and weekends (as needed).
  • Coordinate Ask a Librarian 24/7 chat service.
  • Foster the use of open education resources (OER) and work with instructors to embed open and library subscription content into course materials.
  • Develop and maintain subject and/or class specific research guides on the LibGuide platform.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and other types of documentation as needed.
  • Engage in professional development, scholarship, and service in accordance with District standards for promotion and tenure; serve on Library, College, and District committees.
  • Promote library resources and services through campus partnerships and programs.
  • Work with library staff in a team environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respect to all customers including staff, faculty, students, and the community.


Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate professional program accredited by the American Library Association

OR

A master's degree (or higher) in any of the following areas is within the Library Field of Study: Library and Information Studies, Information Studies, Library and Information Science, Library Science, Information Resources and Library Science, Information Science AND is from a college or university program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). The degree must be conferred at the time of application.

Desired Qualifications

A. Two (2) or more years of demonstrated teaching ability, lesson planning, and assessment with high school, college, and/or adult learners in both in-person and digital formats.

B. Demonstrated reference experience in a library with a combination of in-person and remote settings providing reference services to diverse populations and users of all levels in an academic setting within the last five (5) years.

C. Demonstrated experience with science and medical databases such as PubMed.

D. Demonstrated experience with educational and library technologies, including learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), integrated library systems/discovery systems (e.g., Alma/Primo), and research tools (e.g., Leganto, LibGuides).

E. Demonstrated experience with Open Education Resources (OER), including licensing and copyright issues.

F. Demonstrated experience with outreach and promotion of library resources and services to diverse populations and users of all levels.

G. Demonstrated experience in a leadership role in a library.
