Job Description Summary

Sets up and run CNC machines or machining centers to perform various machine functions such as cutting,
facing, tapping and boring of powder metal parts.

Job Description

  • Setup and Operate CNC machines including lathes, machining centers, deburring machines, and other machining processes.
  • Selects required tooling, fixture and other equipment (ie tracks, ejector plates, etc.) for the job to be setup from the process instruction.
  • Install tooling/fixtures/equipment into machine.
  • Sets Geometery for all tools. Set Z workshift as required.
  • Select correct program for the given job.
  • Test run the first piece. Verifying the machine is operating correctly.
  • Adjusts the machine to get the part in size.
  • Completes First piece Setup Inspection.
  • Clean any tooling, fixtures, etc. Then put the items away in proper location.
  • Change brushes in deburring equipment
  • Maintain 5S standards. This includes cleaning machines, tooling, etc.
  • Performs TPM activities as required.
  • Ensures operation runs at required production rate. Notifies Team Leader or Supervisor when this does not occur
  • Understand CMM reports to be able to adjust equipment (Live tooling Lathes, mills, etc.)
  • Trouble shoot part issues.
  • Operate CNC equipment as required: i.e. lunches/shortage of labor due to call-offs and excessive absenteeism. This includes all duties of a CNC operator
  • Communicates with co-workers from the previous and following shifts to discuss problems and concerns
  • Informs team leaders of all issues.
  • Assists other associates as directed by the Team Lead and/or supervisor.
  • Complete broken tool bar sheet as needed.

Required Skills and Education

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Determine alternate fixtures for new setups for running parts in alternate work centers
  • Replacement of Mac valves when needed
  • Replacement and adjustment of all fiber optic eyes
  • Ability to train the following classifications: Class C, B and A Operators
  • Install and adjust automation
  • Total lathe and automation troubleshooting to the best of their ability involving maintenance when necessary
  • Must be able to work well with others from other areas including Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, other setup mechanics and operators
