About the Position:

The School of Art is seeking an Open Studio Monitor to work in our Sculpture Studio (wood/metal/plaster/ceramics) and our Foundations Labs. The Open Studio Monitor will be responsible for supervising students working with traditional and non-traditional sculptural processes including woodworking, metal fabrication, plaster mold making, ceramics, concrete, and mixed media.

Responsibilities:

This position will teach safe operations, demo equipment, and be responsible for maintaining a safe and clean shop. The Open Studio Monitor will help ensure equipment is working properly and follow procedures for inoperable equipment. The selected candidate is responsible for safeguarding tools and equipment. The shop monitor ensures that everyone using equipment is authorized to do so, ensures proper safety attire is being worn and that all rules are being followed.

Required Qualifications:



  • This position requires a great work ethic, a pleasant and professional demeanor, and the flexibility to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Applicants must be reliable, comfortable multi-tasking with strong time management skills, and pay close attention to detail;
  • Experience using equipment in metal, wood, and ceramic shops is required;
  • Demonstrated experience working with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds; and
  • 2 or more years of demonstrated experience working in a wood/metal shop


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 5 or more years' experience working with wood/metal/ceramic equipment and tools; and
  • Experience teaching equipment safety in a shop setting.
