An OT1 is an entry level occupational therapist who may be a new graduate or new to a medical setting. An OT1 provides safe and competent patient care at a basic level and shows growth in ability to care for increasingly complex patients. A therapist at this level requires consultation with more experienced clinicians and benefits from feedback regarding complex patient problems and coordination of care with the other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The OT1 is focused primarily on mastering general knowledge and skills. This therapist understands the OT's role on the interdisciplinary team and is beginning to participate as a member. The OT1 may provide mentoring and guidance to support and other staff pending approval by his or her supervisor.
