Job Description
The purpose of this position is to direct the day-to-day operations of the college campus including facilities maintenance, housekeeping, landscape and grounds maintenance, fleet management, and capital projects.This position is also responsible for overseeing all relevant compliance efforts including occupational health and safety. This is accomplished by supervising the Manager for Facilities and the Manager for Campus Operations who are responsible for the areas of capital and operational projects, facilities maintenance and facilities operations to include wastewater treatment management, vendor snow removal operations, and assisting with development of facilities master plan and capital program documents and proposals; coordinating design, construction, and maintenance activities. Assist with managing the annual capital budget and departmental operating budgets and engages peers and colleagues in regular communication with the intent of fostering an open dialogue and healthy exchange of ideas. The Director must demonstrate commitment to College's mission, vision, and values through behaviors and work performance. Other duties include serving on College, state and county committees and tasks forces.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree with 3 years of experience of facilities/operations related experience.
Required Experience
Minimum of five years of leadership experience in facilities, operations, or quality assurance, with expertise in regulatory compliance, data management, and system development and a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Leads all design, construction and campus maintenance activities in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Provides leadership to ensure projects progress on time and within established budgets .
  • Experience collaborating with contractors, architects, engineers, designers, and other maintenance-related vendors on capital projects
  • Manages the annual capital and departmental operating budgets.
  • Tracks deferred maintenance projects, working closely with and making recommendations to leadership related to project prioritization
  • Ability to lead team by providing guidance, setting clear goals aligned with strategic plans, and serving as a resource. Manages hiring, development, and performance issues effectively.
  • Ability to manage documentation for campus facilities and operations through CMMS system and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, industry regulations, internal policies, and contract requirements.

Preferred Qualifications


  • CFM certification from IFMA
  • Experience managing CMMS
  • Masters degree or higher in facilities management, operations, construction management, or a closely related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting

Hours per Week 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
Mon-Fri 8:00-4:00p with occasional extended hours based on business needs
