Job Summary

The Associate Director of Post Baccalaureate & Outreach Programs in Medical Education manages the programs through organizing and delegating to team to design, conduct, and evaluate teaching and learning activities, scheduling, core competencies, assessment and evaluations. This position strategizes, plans, and leads implementation of substantial program improvements. The Associate Director provides leadership and oversight of educational pipeline and informational outreach programs for the School of Medicine at the K-12, community college, 4-year undergraduate and post baccalaureate levels. This includes program framework development, implementation, evaluation, funding, general administration, and fiscal management. The position provides administrative oversight for some medical student activities such as the HealthLink program and other student sponsored outreach activities. Programs under the purview of this position include HealthLink, the Medical Scholars Pathway Program (community college program in partnership with Kaiser Permanente of Northern California and local community colleges), the annual Admissions Workshop, Virtual Open Houses, Inside UCSF, and the School of Medicine Post Baccalaureate Program (as part of the UCSF Interprofessional Health Post Baccalaureate Graduate Certificate Program).

The Associate Director acts as a liaison between the San Francisco campus and the UC Office of the President (UCOP) offices of Health Affairs, Academic Preparation, and Graduate and Professional Studies for system-wide pipeline and outreach policy, data collection, and activities; to the California Post Baccalaureate Consortium which is a partnership of post baccalaureate programs at UCSF, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCLA, Charles R. Drew University and Cal Poly Humboldt; and to MOU partners UC Berkeley Extension and Kaiser Permanente of Northern California.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $127,200 - $197,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The unit's role is to initiate, develop and implement School of Medicine educational pipeline and outreach programs and activities, including the UCSF School of Medicine Post Baccalaureate Program (a component of the UCSF Interprofessional Health Post Baccalaureate Graduate Certificate Program), and some of the School of Medicine's diversity and outreach activities such as the School of Medicine Admissions Workshop; Virtual Open Houses; the Medical Scholars Pathway Program, a Community College pipeline program in partnership with Kaiser Permanente of Northern California and local community colleges; and targeted high school programs such as HealthLink. These programs promote and recruit a diverse student population with a focus on students/participants from underserved, underrepresented and low-income backgrounds. Unit also supports some recruitment activities for School of Medicine at regional and national conferences.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, business or related discipline and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 6+ years of directly relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of lead/supervisor/manager experience
  • Broad knowledge of health professions education industry, including educational concepts, curriculum, and competencies of a specific health profession.
  • Broad knowledge of campus, medical center, HR and university policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations including national accrediting organizations and state and federal licensing and regulatory offices.
  • Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others. Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates and effectively handles change.
  • Ability to organize program operations and sites in an efficient and effective manner through improving health professions education program processes, procedures, and systems.
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with peers, learners, multidisciplinary team members, senior management, and assigned staff.
  • Ability to collaborate within and across health professions to integrate / coordinate program activities and resolve problems.
  • Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution. Demonstrates good problem-solving and analytical skills. Creatively addresses complex or new problems.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, persuade, advise, and counsel.
  • In-depth knowledge of learner empowerment and educational success strategies
  • In-depth knowledge of learner challenges from low-income, underserved, underrepresented backgrounds
  • In-depth experience in curriculum and educational program development

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in education, health leadership or related discipline and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. medical school admissions processes
