Job Description

The Director, User Experience is a senior leadership role responsible with several years of experience with overall strategic direction and management of the User Experience department. This encompasses guiding and leading teams and ensuring that user-centered design principles are integrated into products and services.

The Director, User Experience will collaborate with other executives, set department goals, and align UX strategies with the business objectives; they manage the entire department and team of Architects in designing innovative healthcare products and end-to end digital solutions. This role requires strong leadership attributes to effectively manage UX leads, patience, and strong negotiation and influencing skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Team Management

  • Supervises the team to ensure the team is delivering quality work, developing skills, and knowledge to perform their work effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Continuously evaluate and improve strategies, processes, and methodologies to stay ahead of the competition and ensure ongoing success for the agency, clients, and stakeholders.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities

  • Takes a future forward approach to developing and implementing new capabilities, tools and working models at the agency.
  • Emphasizes the broader, longer-term vision and values as a means of guiding decisions and actions
  • Manages the UX department and team of UX Architects in designing cutting edge healthcare products and end-to-end digital solutions
  • Directs the team in the UX discovery phase and provides guidance on conducting user research and translating the findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Advocates for the user, and how the digital product's architecture and the functionality appropriately meet those needs.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal, medical, and regulatory pharma guidelines, as well as any client specific rules and brand guidelines.
  • Evangelizes the importance of empathizing with the experiences of the end user.
  • Lead client and team workshops around requirements definition and implementation to meet user and client needs.

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Closely collaborates with the Director of Product Design to ensure that the intended branding, campaign, and layout as well as UX architecture and functionality on projects are aligned with the needs of the user.
  • Administration
  • Performs activities related to efficiently managing and growing the UX department.
  • Seeks outgrowth opportunities for team members in the form of training, mentors, inclusion in leadership meetings, and informal peer reviews.
  • Completes timesheets, expenses, and all other administrative duties accurately and on a timely basis.

EDUCATION:

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Areas of Concentration: Marketing, advertising, computer science, human- computer interaction, human factors, psychology, anthropology, graphic design, or related discipline.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

UX professional certification

EXPERIENCE:

15 plus years of experience: designing applications, interactive touchscreen experience and websites.

Related Roles: UX Information Architect, UX Strategist, Technical Writer, Content Strategist, UI/ Developer, HCI, Visual Communications, UI/ Graphic Design, or related field preferred.

Agency, healthcare, and interactive design experience a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Software Level: Proficient

  • Primary: Figma, Adobe XD and Sketch
  • Secondary: OmniGraffle, Axure
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)

User Experience Level: Master

  • UX processes, principles, trends and UX architecture deliverables.
  • Qualitative/quantitative moderated and unmoderated user research: 1-1 interviews, surveys and usability testing, analytics, competitor, and heuristic evaluations.
  • WCAG 2.1 AA Guidelines and the importance of ensuring website accessibility compliance and flagging areas of non-compliance.

UX Skills Level: Master

  • Communicates the value of UX methodologies to key stakeholders.
  • Authority on all UX best practices and can reference the research to support all claims.
  • Participate and contribute to multiple pitches.

Ability Level: Master

  • Effectively present and communicate to influence one's point of view.
  • Manage UX Leads
  • Provide management oversight on various brands' projects.
  • Provide feedback on SOWs.
  • Attend kickoffs and any scoping meetings. Provide feedback on Pre-Briefs, Briefs, Scopes, Timelines, Hours, Staffing - escalate when needed. Manages and resolves issues.
  • Shape roadmaps aligned to client business goals.
  • Utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to drive creative solutions.
  • Develops and implements new capabilities and sets UX standards.
  • Lead client and team workshops around requirements definition and implementation to meet User and Client needs.
  • Escalates concerns about deadline issues and unreasonable requests to Account/IP leadership.

SALARY

$150,000 - $195,000 annually.
