JOB SUMMARY:

A machinist with 2 to 3 years of experience in Ship repair Navy and Commercial Auxiliary equipment by performing the duties below.JOB SUMMARY:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

OM are skilled in the installation of propulsion machinery, sea valves, steering gear, anchor handling equipment, elevators, pumps, ventilation fans, cooling coils, refrigeration units, compressors, weapons systems, remote operators, radars, and antennas. In the process of installing this equipment, experience is gained in the use of math, blueprints, precision tooling, and portable machine tools. Outside machinists also become familiar with the procedures for precision line boring, precision alignment of machinery, bearing fitting, machinery assembly, surface machining, precision reaming, and machinery and weapons testing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Can be relied upon to remove and install small, simple components such as valves, strainers, gages, piping, and other non-complex interferences.

2. Has a complete set of basic hand tools which are kept in good, clean, and safe condition as well as can be expected during and after use.

3. Can be relied upon to remove and install small equipment such as valves and other simple components.

4. Can easily determine and select the proper tools required, and can use those tools properly, safely, and effectively to accomplish their assigned tasks.

5. Can demonstrate complete use of all machinists associated hand tools.

6. Can operate specialized equipment and tooling with proper guidance and instruction.

7. Can properly and accurately take readings from a machinist scale and precision measuring instruments and devices.

8. Can accurately identify instrumentation such as gages and thermometers to monitor operating equipment.

9. Can be relied upon to disassemble and inspect basic machinery components with limited instruction.

10. Intermediate reading, interpreting of blueprints (successful identification of material types, parts, references, applicable views/details).

11. Correctly identifies bolt size, material types and grades.

12. Intermediate understanding of Shipboard engineering systems.

14. Self-motivated

15. Able to solve basic job issues without need for Supervisory approval.

16. Ability to perform alignments and complete associated checkpoints.

17. Advanced use of power tools (grinders, reciprocating saws, drills etc.).

18. Advanced use of hand tools (hammers, punches, clamps, etc.).

19. Correct use of precision measuring tools.

20. Ability to make drawing for parts fabrication by inside machinist.

21. Intermediate knowledge of shipbuilding standards (009-24, 009-58)

22. Adheres to fire safety principles (hot work tickets, positioning firewatches, 35' rule, etc.)

23. Ability to navigate onboard vessels to find work areas/backsides of work areas.

24. Practical knowledge of industry safety standards/training.

25. Adheres to industry safety standards.

26. Requires periodic supervision to accomplish work.

27. Must be able to work long hours, weekends as required by the supervisor to support project schedule. Must be able to work OT and weekends in short notice and must have reliable transportation.

28. Other duties as assign by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or GED required and 2 to 3 years of related experience or equivalent of training and experience in field.

2. Ability to gain access to military installations.

3. Must pass drug test and background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and seek help with weights over 50 pounds.

2. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs/vertical ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This is a physically demanding position and may accommodate some physical disabilities. Physical dexterity may be required when performing walk thru and inspection of job sites. In the performance of the walk thru you will be required to transverse steep stairwells, vertical ladders and bending or stooping thru tight spaces. There may be occasional lifting of materials weighing not more than 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This position works on the jobsite. There is exposure to hostile environments, loud noises, hazardous chemicals/fumes and airborne particles, smoke, extreme temperatures moving mechanical parts: high, precarious places.

During work-site visits will be required to wear appropriate PPE including, but not limited to:

Hard hat

Ear plugs or attenuator

Safety shoes

Dust mask or respirator

Gloves
