Faculty Librarians

The Florida International University Libraries invite applications for three open-rank faculty librarian positions in the following areas:

  • Open Scholarship Librarian
  • Digital Initiatives Librarian
  • Electronic Resources Librarian

The Libraries seek candidates with a range of expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Scholarly communication, open access publishing, and OER development
  • Digital scholarship, repositories, and digital humanities projects
  • Electronic resource management and troubleshooting, licensing, and usage analytics
  • Metadata creation, digital preservation, and collections management
  • Library systems, emerging technologies, and research data services

Key Responsibilities

Each position within this cluster will contribute to FIU Libraries mission to support research, teaching, and learning in the following ways:

  • Develop, implement, and manage programs and services in scholarly communication, open access, digital scholarship, and/or electronic resource management.
  • Collaborate with faculty, students, and researchers to enhance access to scholarly outputs, promote open knowledge, and integrate digital tools into research and publishing.
  • Improve discovery and access to digital and electronic collections through metadata strategies, usability enhancements, and emerging technologies.
  • Develop policies, workflows, and training to ensure effective management and promotion of digital initiatives, electronic resources, and open-access materials.
  • Engage in professional development and scholarship, contributing to national and international conversations in academic librarianship.

Each librarian will also participate in library-wide initiatives, committee work, and outreach activities to support the university community.

Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience or coursework in one or more of the core areas of scholarly communication, digital initiatives, or electronic resource management.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and work effectively in a team-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with OER initiatives, digital repositories, or ILS.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends in academic publishing, open-access models, or copyright and licensing issues.
  • Familiarity with library systems such as Alma/Primo, electronic authentication protocols, COUNTER usage statistics, or metadata standards (Dublin Core, MODS, MARC, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, develop policies, and provide training for library staff and faculty.
