POSITION SUMMARY:
Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of the diagnostic medical equipment to obtain images of various OB/GYN conditions and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations to the interpreting physician using sonography. Position specializes in perinatal sonography. Ultrasound examinations include a variety of conditions ranging from routine OB/GYN to high risk Obstetrical scans to also include, but not limited to, nuchal translucency, fetal anatomy survey, Doppler studies, biophysical profile and endovaginal scans. Displays proficiency in gynecological scanning and possess the ability to determine normal vs. abnormal non-gravid uterus, ability to perform guidance for Amniocentesis, Chorionic villus sampling, Sonohysterogram and other procedures commonly performed in a MFM program. Works independently demonstrating a thorough knowledge of high risk conditions including appropriate timeframe needed for scheduling of follow up scans. Responsible for recognizing and reporting of any equipment failures and quality assessment issues to supervisor. EDUCATION: Associates or bachelor`s degree in a healthcare related field or applied science required. American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Registered in OB required. Required licenses/certifications: Current certification with the American Reg EXPERIENCE: Minimum two (2) years of experience in MFM preferred. Prior Electronic Medical Records experience a plus but not required. Experience with 3D/4D Ultrasonography a plus. SPECIAL SKILLS: Current BLS certification required. Physical dexterity to operate sensitive electronic ultrasound equipment to produce images and perform tests on patients requiring placement of equipment in sensitive areas. Knowledge of the fetal circulatory system as well. Ability to function in a sterile environment during procedures. Effective interaction and communication (oral, writing, presenting) skills are required. Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details, changing from one task to another without loss of composure or efficiency. Ability to function competently in stressful situations and changing work environments related to changing patient needs. Ability to work cooperatively within the health system using a multidisciplinary approach (i.e. physicians, nurses, genetic counselors, clerical staff, leadership, Patient Care Services and other department staff members). Ability to use analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively problem-solve.
