Security Engineer III

The Security Systems Engineer III performs a variety of tasks applied to specialized technology problems to resolve total system problems as they relate to Information Assurance requirements. Provides technical assistance to the program manager in addressing system security requirements IAW National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), DODI 8500.1; DoD 8500.2, DODI 8510.01 and other applicable security directives or policies for the application of the Risk Management Framework (RMF). Provides trend analysis and recommendations to the program manager on security constraints and industry best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce system security documents and artifacts to support assessment and authorization packages for the accreditation of IT systems
  • Review system security documents and artifacts produced by development contractors and other organization to support assessment and authorization packages for system accreditation
  • Familiarity with the use of Fortify Static Code Analysis tool and interpretation of the results to determine validity and severity of findings to formulate risk assessment reports
  • Familiarity with ACAS (Tenable Nessus) vulnerability in scanning servers and interpretation of the results to determine validity and severity of findings to formulate risk assessment reports
  • Participate in technical meetings on a wide range of security engineering topics
  • Conduct technical reviews of development Contractor produced security deliverables
  • Coordinate with development contractor security/system engineers, ISSOs, ISSMs, and USTRANSCOM security offices and staffs to resolve program security issues
  • Experience providing support to ensure system(s) are designed, developed, and deployed in accordance with applicable Executive Orders, Federal Policy, DOD regulations, USTRANSCOM requirements, and commercial best practices
  • Support security strategy with multiple agencies, Authorizing Official (AO) representatives, and vendors and support coordination with other government organizations/agencies to assess security engineering issues
  • Apply security engineering principles to recommend changes to network and security architecture for the purposes of improving security posture and meeting operations performance requirements
  • Conduct security testing activities including security assessments and audits. Support operational security activities e.g., firewall implementation, risk mitigation, host security, encryption, intrusion detection, Virtual Private Network (VPN) implementations, and virus detections

Qualifications:

  • Clearance requirement - Secret
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in information assurance and cybersecurity of DoD systems
  • Experience using eMASS
  • Working knowledge of DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF), DoD IA guidance and policies, and NIST 800 series standards
  • Security +, CAP, or other IA-related certification highly desired
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Please note that only US Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
