About the Department
The Eells lab is interested in studying how the various environmental factors impact dopamine neuron function and survival. Currently, we are investigating how SARS-CoV-2 infection can damage dopamine neurons and potentially lead to an increased risk of Parkinson's disease. Our lab uses a mouse model of COVID-19 in combination with models of Parkinson's disease. We routinely use immunohistochemistry/immuno-fluorescence on paraffin embedded sections, microscopy and image analysis. Additionally, we will use primary cell culture, ELISA and molecular biology (RT-qPCR) techniques.
The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences is one of three departments at the College of Veterinary Medicine ( CVM) and consists of 41 faculty who have a diversity of research and teaching interests which includes faculty in the clinical disciplines of Anesthesia, Radiology, Clinical Nutrition and Clinical Pharmacology. The Comparative Biomedical Sciences graduate program in CVM consists of several different "tracks", allowing students to focus their research in the areas of cell biology, infectious diseases, pharmacology, pathology and population medicine. Other graduate programs with which department faculty are affiliated at NCSU include programs in immunology, physiology, functional genomics, microbiology, toxicology and genetics.
North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine ( CVM) is a dynamic community whose members are dedicated to preparing veterinarians and veterinarian scientists while advancing animal and human health from the cellular level through entire ecosystems.
