Job Description

Albemarle is hiring for a Project Director- JBC-ONE. This position is Charlotte based, with travel (40%) to Jordan and Engineering/Design Firm office locations.

What You Will Do

The Project Director is accountable for project results that achieve business objectives and is responsible for translating those business objectives into the capital project objectives. The Project Director is directly accountable to the Business Unit Steering Team and is the leader of the Project Leadership Team. The Project Director must understand the roles, responsibilities, and contribution of functional members of the Project Leadership Team and empower them to do their jobs. The Project Director is the primary link between the Project Leadership Team and the Business Unit Steering Team.

The Project Director oversees a large/complex project for the Jordan Bromine Company (JBC), which is in Amman, Jordan. The Project Director reports to the Capital Projects Program Director for JBC.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and organize the Project Leadership Team

  • Is accountable to the business for project success

  • Is responsible through the Project Leadership Team members for acquiring and releasing project resources as needed during the life of the project

  • Establishes effective communications within the Integrated Project Team to ensure alignment among business objectives, project objectives, and the Design Basis

  • Leads the development of the roles and responsibilities definitions for the project and ensures each functional team member understands their role and deliverables

  • Manages overall project expenditures and schedule to meet business expectations

  • Clearly sets overall Project Leadership Team direction and expectations

  • Manages the "management of change" procedure

  • Is accountable for the overall integrated project schedule

  • Is accountable for total project cost and investment

  • Provides primary interface between the Project Leadership Team and the Business Unit Steering Team

  • Drives capital project work processes and practices

  • Leads all gatekeeping reviews and ensures all front-end development deliverables are met

  • Ensures commissioning and turnover plans are prepared

  • Ensures operations and maintenance procedures are prepared.

  • Is accountable for integrated engineering design and procurement schedule

  • Manages changes in the project scope and controls associated cost within the approved budget amounts per the accepted project "no-change" policy (Change Management Process)

  • Manages engineering noncapital costs, capital investment, and engineering resources within budget

  • Drives capital project work processes and practices

  • Participates in all gatekeeping reviews

  • Prepares or assists in preparing all project-funding

What You Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, or other equivalent engineering discipline

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years direct experience in the specialty chemicals, petrochemical, or chemical industry with at least 10 years of direct project management experience (international experience a plus)

  • Previous experience managing (start to finish) Brownfield and/or Greenfield projects (>$200MM USD)

  • A leader in safety, including setting expectations and being visible in the field

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; willing to delegate

  • Solid understanding of the business, technology, and manufacturing process

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Understanding and appreciation for the various functions and disciplines involved in capital projects and capability to build the strong engineering team necessary for project success

  • Experience and expertise in project processes from project concept through checkout and start-up

  • Results oriented and disciplined to follow project processes and best practices

Preferred:

  • Experience working major specialty chemical capital projects in Middle East region
