Description

The employee will work under the direction of the principle investigator, Dr. Andrew Wilber. Additional direction should be expected from laboratory staff, Catherine Mirto and Nicole Townsend. The employee will complete all safety, compliance and regulatory training in accordance with SIU School of Medicine policies. Under direction and assistance of the principal investigator and laboratory staff, the employee will be present in the laboratory through the defined work period. The employee will assist with the preparation of reagents and related laboratory duties required to maintain the integrity of the research project. In consultation with the principal investigator, the employee will establish specific learning objectives and will perform experiments, analyze data resulting from experiments, and prepare necessary data for reports at laboratory meetings. The employee will also be expected to actively review the scientific literature as related to the project. The employee will prepare a presentation of the research project which will include background, objective, experimental design, data analysis/findings, and future directions which will be delivered before the end of the work period. This presentation will be delivered to the public so it will be important to communicate the project in laymen's terms

Qualifications
-
1) Must be currently enrolled as a college student. If appointment is to be made during the summer months, individual must show transcript or grade slip verification that s/he was enrolled during the spring semester immediately prior to the appointment (a student ID card is not sufficient.); AND
2) Must have successfully completed no less than 30 semester hours of college coursework, with at least one course in the field of science or biology with related laboratory training; AND
3) Must be 18 years of age or older.
