About the Position

The Senior Architectural Associate provides intermediate to advanced professional architectural work, including programming, space planning, conceptual design, and design development through construction documents and construction administration. This position is responsible for the intake and distribution of drawings and documents to and from consultants and internal staff. It takes an active role in maintaining space and drawing standards of the division. The Senior Architectural Associate may conduct code research, perform presentations to clients and management, and may serve as a lead worker for other employees engaged in this work. This position will work with project managers across disciplines and create dynamic functional spaces for various departments and county stakeholders.

We Require

  • Five years of experience performing architectural work designing space layouts and managing intermediate to complex renovation design projects of office space or similar space-type renovations or new builds, including two years of project management experience in all areas of the planning, design, and construction of facility construction projects

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Planning, Design, Facilities Management, Construction Administration, or a closely related field

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

  • Must be a licensed Architect by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration or the ability to obtain registration within 12 months of employment

We Also Value

  • Six or more years of experience in architectural design work and coordination across design disciplines (mechanical, structural, interiors, etc.)

  • Understanding of BOMA Floor Measurement Standards and Best Practices

  • Knowledge of Arizona State Library, Archives, & Public Records (LAPR) retention schedules, standards, and guidance

  • Experience in researching and interpreting the International Building Codes and ANSI standards for ADA requirements

  • Knowledge of the National CAD Standard and/or AIA CAD Layer Guidelines

  • Photoshop/graphic design experience.

  • Revit proficiency with the ability to set up and manage templates.

  • Experience with SketchUp or other 3D modeling software

Job Contributions

  • Produce design drawings and complex construction document sets for all phases of design. Permit drawing sets with Planning and Development and other authorities having jurisdiction, including Engineering consultant coordination

  • Develop programming, test fit floor plans, and schematic design options to validate space layouts and concept floor plan overlays to test department moves and reconfigures against actual available square footage

  • Create bid package drawings for contractor pricing and budgetary purposes; produce construction details for tenant improvement projects including custom details to adapt building systems and finishes to existing conditions. Work with the Interiors team to develop finish schedules on Architectural improvement projects

  • Manage and organize close-out files and technical documentation for each construction project, including all architectural, engineering, vendor, and consultant documents, as-builts, warranties, and other contract-specified deliverables, saving documents in proper formats to department drives and or cloud storage locations

  • Maintain up-to-date FMD Master Drawings and Department Zoning Diagrams and assist with department square footage verification in support of the annual Cost Allocations process

  • Review Architectural Job Captain's complex architectural plans and provide inhouse architect signature for projects and service as backup signature for Senior Architect

  • Maintain and enforce Maricopa County Facilities Management Department CAD/BIM Standards, including layering control, title block templates, and details. Maintain Space Standards Document

  • Survey existing office space conditions, measure floor plans, and check for the accuracy of floor plans on an as-needed basis

  • Manage Project Managers, Operations & Maintenance, and the Design Team with the collection and distribution of record drawings and other files for use in-house, by vendors, and other consultants

  • Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly or requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked
