Job
purpose


Demonstrated interest in working on behalf of
children and youth. Commitment to working with marginalized communities and
working towards a more just and equitable legal system. This position offers
experience in Kinship Guardianship, Emancipation, Child Custody, Child Support,
Name Changes, Declaratory Judgments, and Adoptions by assisting attorneys with
legal research, document drafting, case preparation, and client interaction.

Duties
and responsibilities


*Assist with case preparation in matters involving children, youth, and guardians in various court proceedings.
*Draft legal documents including petitions, motions, and final orders under attorney supervision.
*Conduct legal research on various legal issues.
*Promote policies that affect children's law.
*Observe client meetings and contribute to client communication.
*Collaborate with other Pegasus staff teams as needed and participate in Pegasus-wide meetings.
Attend and assist at Pegasus outreach events and
events in collaboration with partner organizations

NOTE:
This is a paid internship with pay at $23 an hour with flexible hours during
the summer months; however, keep in mind that our office hours are Monday
through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You may be required to participate
in some Friday hearings


Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.



Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications

*Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (JD) program, with at least one year of law school completed.
*Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

*Strong academic record with a demonstrated interest in youth and family law.
*Those with lived experience related to Pegasus' work and mission are especially encouraged to apply.
