Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding an Addiction Medicine PhysiciantoNYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Medical Center.NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi is modern, state of the art, level 1 Trauma Center located in an attractive and safe residential Bronx neighborhood just 20 minutes north of Manhattan. It is affiliated with North Central Bronx Hospital and a teaching site and academic affiliate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. It offers a full continuum of Acute Cre Inpatient and Outpatient Services in diverse medical and surgical specialties, including Psychiatry. The Department of Psychiatry has 89 adult acute inpatient beds, a CPEP, a C/L Service, an Adult Ambulatory Practice, and a Community-Based Assertive Community Treatment Program. The department employes evidence-based best practices in providing the highest quality care to its patients, in a patient-centered approach that is respectful of their individuality, culture, and community.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The identified addiction medicine physician provides direct patient care and maintain focus on key strategic priorities including patient experience, access to case, increased market share, and improving financial stability across the SUD Services.

  • Under the clinical direction of the Medical Directors of Addiction Services, provides addiction care and harm reduction services to patients in the ED, IP units, and SUD Walk-in clinic
  • Provides supervision of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants on the Addiction Consult Service
  • Collaborates with the Addiction Consult Service Clinical Supervisor and other Addiction Consult Service staff to facilitate linkage from the acute care setting to outpatient follow up and ongoing care
  • Participates in daily team huddles, regularly scheduled Addiction Consult Service staff meetings and case conferences, and departmental Grand Rounds
  • Evaluates and treats patients in acute withdrawal from substances, including alcohol and/or opioids
  • Provides ongoing medical treatment for patients with SUDs, including Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and/or Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
  • Assesses patients for medical and mental health needs
  • Reviews labs, EKGs, and other tests as clinically indicated and initiates referrals for follow up care
  • Collaborates with hospitalists and subspecialists, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and other medical disciplines within the hospital
  • Conducts suicide risk assessments (SAFE-T evaluations) in the SUD Walk-in Clinic, if within scope of practice for Addiction Psychiatrists
  • Participates in medical and behavioral codes as needed
  • Provides opioid overdose education, naloxone training, and distribution of other harm reduction resources to patients and their friends and family
  • Teaches and trains fellows, residents, and medical students rotating on the Addiction Consult Service as well as preparing didactic presentations as needed
  • Assists with orientation of new physicians and staff in addiction services
  • Adheres to clinical standards as outlined by area policies, standards of work, and regulatory compliance, including timely and accurate completion of visit documentation
  • Assists medical leadership with Quality Assurance and Process Improvement projects as needed
  • Provides coverage for other physicians across addiction services as needed
Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited school of medicine
  • Must have completed residency training in an accreditedprogram
  • Board Certified in Addiction Medicine (ABAM) or Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) (Current or anticipated within 4-years)
  • License to practice medicine in the State of New York
  • Active DEA Registration including waiver to prescribe buprenorphine (Current or anticipated within 6-months)
  • At least one year of education, training, and/or experience in substance use disorder services.

Wages and Benefits include:

Annual Base Salary: $224,000* (board eligible); $229,000* (board certified) based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.

The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $390,400** (board eligible) and $395,900** (board certified), which includes the baseline salary, 401 (k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below:

  • Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $104,000.
  • Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year's average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
  • Generous Annual Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, Sick, Holiday, and CME days.
  • Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Top-tier plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates.
