Job Objective:
The Corrosion Technician is responsible for monitoring, assessing, and mitigating both internal and external corrosion in pipelines and facilities to ensure the integrity, safety, and compliance of company assets. This role involves implementing corrosion control programs, conducting inspections, performing testing, and maintaining cathodic protection (CP) systems. The technician will also be responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting to support regulatory compliance and company standards.
Essential Job Responsibilities: External Corrosion Prevention & Control:
- Install, operate, and maintain cathodic protection (CP) systems including impressed current and sacrificial anode systems.
- Conduct CP surveys such as Close Interval Surveys (CIS), Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG), and Alternating Current Voltage Gradient (ACVG).
- Collecting all regulatory data associated with cathodic protection including annual pipe to soil potentials, bi-monthly rectifier readings, and bond readings. This data is to be documented in the American Innovations PCS-CPDM database program.
- Perform coating inspections and evaluations to ensure protective coatings are intact and effective.
- Monitor and test pipeline potentials to ensure compliance with NACE, DOT, and company standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair CP system failures, rectifiers, test stations, and ground beds.
- Support pipeline integrity program during ILI dig projects by completing data collection of cathodic protection pipe to soil measurements, soil resistivity, and soil pH measurements at each site.
- Collaborate with Integrity Engineer to understand external corrosion anomalies/issues identified through ILI tool inspections and implement preventative and mitigative measures (PMMs) applicable to external corrosion.
Internal Corrosion Prevention & Control:
- Conduct internal corrosion direct assessments (ICDA) and risk evaluations.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret pipeline fluid and gas samples for corrosive elements (e.g., CO, HS, bacteria, water content, chlorides).
- Implement and monitor the use of corrosion inhibitors, biocides, and other chemical treatment programs.
- Work with operations and engineering teams to optimize internal corrosion monitoring using coupons, probes, and other sensors.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure corrosion control practices align with PHMSA, DOT 49 CFR Part 192/195, NACE, API, and company standards.
- Maintain and update records of corrosion monitoring, CP systems, and inspection reports.
- Prepare and submit compliance documentation, corrective action reports, and mitigation plans.

- Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook
- Must respond to, and address, callouts and emergencies.
- Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision in an acceptable time frame.
- Ability to operate and maintain chemical injection and pressure access equipment.
- Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work independently.

- Meets criteria to apply for one of the following:
- NACE Cathodic Protection Tester (CP1) Certification
- NACE Cathodic Protection Technician (CP2) Certification
- Experience with PCS-CPDM.
- Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems, corrosion related portions of NEC, and NACE standards.
- Knowledge of company policies and DOT regulations.
- Knowledge and experience with safe handling practices of liquid products.
Education Requirements:
- Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent or any equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating sufficient knowledge, ability and skill to handle the duties and responsibilities of the position.
