Logistic Specialist

The Logistics Specialist coordinates the shipping and receiving of international and domestic products. This position also completes domestic and international shipping and receiving reports by product, quantity and destination. This position may provide supervision to the forklift operator, truck driver, bulk unloader or other warehouse team members in the absence of the Logistics Supervisor or Manager.

What your day may look like



  • Creates complex load patterns for IMDG.
  • Ensures all outgoing loads comply with hazmat ocean and air requirements for international shipments.
  • Researches and verifies that outgoing shipments are labeled to meet appropriate domestic or international requirements.
  • Instructs plant team members in proper shipping regulations
  • Maintains and completes all required domestic or international forms to ensure incoming and outgoing product complies with all regulations.
  • Coordinates booking dates for ports and air shipments.
  • Coordinates outside inspections from all regulating agencies including those from other countries.
  • Resolves any issues regarding incoming or outgoing products.
  • Reports issues and resolutions to leadership.
  • Maintains cleanliness of warehouse, dock and surrounding grounds.
  • Organizes incoming and outgoing truck traffic.
  • Maintains a clean work environment both inside and outside the facility by using good housekeeping habits.
  • Performs work in a safe, responsible manner by following all safety rules and procedures.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.



Education and experience needed for this position



  • Bachelor's in transportation or logistics management is required.
  • Four years of increasing job responsibilities involving international shipping of hazardous products.

  • Understands and follows written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Certification or ability to obtain certifications in IATA and IMDG.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Advanced DOT knowledge.
  • Knowledge of CFR 49 regulations.
  • Computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office.
  • Able to complete DOT hazardous materials handling and hazardous waste management training requirements.
  • Capable of passing an OSHA respirator physical.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in extreme hot or cold temperatures.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts as scheduled.



Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job

There are potential hazards associated with any chemical manufacturing business but at Helena Industries safety is our highest priority. We seek out extensive safety measures including engineered solutions and personal protective equipment and put them in place to minimize exposure to anything that could potentially be harmful to our employees.

The work environment for this position is that of a typical plant environment where the noise level is usually moderate to loud. In this position, you will regularly work near moving equipment/mechanical parts and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Lab and office positions at the plant would only have occasional exposure if they must go out into the plant.
