The Heavy Haul Dispatcher II works in a supervisory capacity in dispatching trucks and supervising Heavy Haul Drivers and Coordinators to ensure timely equipment pickup and delivery for customers in a profitable manner, while providing excellent customer service. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Safety
- Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a leader and team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
- Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSECO employees.
- Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.
Supervision, Scheduling, and Negotiation
- Supervises Heavy Haul Driver's and Coordinator to approve driver schedules, timekeeping, and expense reports.
- Schedules trucks and drivers for pickup and delivery of equipment based on priority. Assigns machine(s) to appropriate truck and assigns route to drivers. Maximizes revenue through efficiency of scheduling. Obtains permits as necessary.
- Schedules third-party transport when Heavy Haul trucks are at capacity.
- Schedules and coordinates Route Haul trucks to ensure maximum efficiency and on-time deliveries.
- Notifies customers of pickup and delivery schedule and provides updates as needed.
- Sets billing rate. Negotiates price and service issues for all modes of transport.
- Invoices customer for Heavy Haul services. Codes incoming invoices for payment and forwards to A/P for payment.
- Obtains and regulates fuel and trip reports.
- Schedules trucks for routine maintenance and repair.
- Works closely with Fleet Manager to ensure timely roll out schedule and appropriate truck and trailer specifications.
- Performs employee evaluations with oversight from Heavy Haul Manager.
- Maintains driver schedules in alignment with Western States' driver safety standards and DOT regulations, including hours of service.
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert in the ongoing development of Dispatch Manager and Heavy Haul Dashboard.
- Adheres to all customer care standards.
- May accomplish training and serve as a team member in support of Western States' strategic programs, projects, and initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of Caterpillar equipment and diesel trucks and trailers.
- Proven skills in written and verbal communications, planning, organizing, leadership and interpersonal relationship building.
- Knowledge of DOT legal requirements.
- Working knowledge of permitting and scheduling process.
- Ability to organize and multi-task.
- Ability to set and manage priorities.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work overtime without notice.
- Consistent attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Minimum one year experience working in logistics or knowledge of trucking industry regulations required, heavy equipment industry experience preferred.
- Minimum six months supervisory experience required.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time along with walking, standing, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs in accordance with Western States' Lifting Safe Work Practice to include amount and approach.
