Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a System Engineer with integration experience to join our team in developing, integrating, and testing new capabilities while supporting our classified Linux- and Windows-based operational and administrative system in our Chantilly, VA office. As part of the Operational Support Network team, you will support an exciting program in an Agile construct to contribute to mission success for a variety of stakeholders in support of a comprehensive, fast-paced program for our Department of Defense (DoD) customer. What you will do

As an Intermediate System Engineer team member, you will provide technical guidance, demonstrate expertise in design, testing and developing new capabilities, update architecture design, perform requirement analysis, and build mission-critical, highly available services in a collaborative environment. Specific duties include:

    Work closely with our DoD customers and stakeholders throughout system lifecycle in development, integration & test, and deployment of a classified Operation Support Network
  • Administer patching, upgrading, and overall management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows server environments
  • Build mission-critical, highly available, high-performance networked systems in a team-oriented environment
  • Participate in system testing activities, including test planning, execution, and performance validation to ensure system functionality and reliability
  • Document and report on system performance issues, producing detailed root cause analysis and corrective action reports
  • Provide technical support for Linux and Windows-based components in a complex, high-performance computing environment
  • Participate in program increment planning, sprint planning /retrospective, and other SAFe Agile-related team activities
  • Adhere to the weekly schedule during core business hours of 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with the expectation that most work hours are performed within this timeframe
  • Participate in tenant site surveys independently or as part of a team to document current as-is state (equipment, users, connected devices, power, etc.)
    • Travel opportunity, up to 10% of time, as needed


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires the candidate possess a minimum of Top-Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI. The candidate must maintain the clearance.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in system engineering, engineering science, computer science, or related field with 8 years of related experience. 4 additional years of equivalent experience in lieu of a BS/BA degree will be considered
  • Hold certifications, training, and/or experience in compliance with DoD 8140 for position held
  • Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) for software distribution, patch management, and system monitoring
  • Familiarity creating and managing Ansible Playbooks to automate system configuration, deployment, and patching across both Linux and Windows environments
  • Strong understanding of multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions, with experience supporting their implementation and management to enhance security
  • Experience monitoring and troubleshooting system performance, escalating critical issues to Tier IV support as needed to maintain high availability
  • Proven ability to collaborate with Operations & Maintenance (O&M) teams to ensure smooth system operations
  • Experienced in vendor interactions for troubleshooting, product evaluation, and solution implementation
  • Strong troubleshooting and optimization skills for complex software and hardware systems
  • Experienced in documenting system performance issues, conducting root cause analysis, and contributing to corrective action plans
  • Experienced in resolving complex issues escalated from Tier II support, ensuring timely and accurate resolutions
  • Skilled in documenting and refining Tier III processes to ensure clear, consistent procedures for handling escalated issues
  • Experienced in cross-training junior team members and assisting with staff training to promote knowledge sharing across the team
  • Adept with system testing, including planning, execution, and performance validation to ensure system functionality and reliability
  • Experience with shell scripting in Windows
  • Knowledgeable in the deployment and administration of RHEL 7.x and 8.x

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Atlassian Data Center products (I.e. Jira Service Management, Jira Software, and Confluence)
  • Ability to independently deploy/maintain a Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) environment
  • Experience or knowledge of Sentris, or other similar attribute-based security classification services, deployments in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience in a fast-paced SAFe Agile Scrum team environment
  • Holds a ITIL 4 Practice Manager or ITIL 4 Managing Professional certification or able to obtain

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
