Job Purpose

Lead maturation of paint materials development (pretreatment, e-coat, sealer, sound deadeners, underbody coatings, primer, basecoat, clearcoat, wax, etc.) from R&D for production application through strategic planningand execution to achieve product specifications and key SEQDCM metrics and manage current mass production materials.

Key Accountabilities

  • Mentor, develop capability of, and manage materials group and paint mix members through teaching and training.
  • Develop, implement, and manage materials plans to achieve new model, plant, and department objectives.
  • Support and execute root-cause problem analysis and quality improvement activities related to all paint materials (body and bumper).
  • Manage all aspects of Body and Bumper Paint Mix across all three shifts
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly team tasks are completed on time. Summarize results and report to department leadership
  • Lead all ADC/GO ADC and Purchasing driven material changes and ensure all materials meet spec within line and plant characteristics.
  • Lead material cost reduction themes and report progress at department monthly reviews.
  • Identify areas of materials characteristic improvement and proactively research material technologies to support achievement of those improvements.
  • Manage all paint material ordering and inventory levels

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent experience
  • 8+ Years of relevant experience, based on education
  • Technical understanding of paint department materials
  • Knowledge of paint department and material application equipment
  • Complex problem analysis skills * Ability to learn a variety of computer software

Working Conditions

  • Weekend and holiday/shutdown work may be required
  • Role is primarily on-site with limited remote work flexibility.
  • Domestic and international travel approximately 1-4 trips/year to support supplier quality assurance and material
  • development at other Honda and supplier facilities
  • Approximately 50% office environment, 50% production floor/material lab
