The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on development, manufacturing, and operation of satellite systems to address one of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space mobility. Specifically, this role supports the Blue Ring next-generation transfer vehicle and spacecraft bus. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will be exposed to a hardware-rich prototyping environment that allows for rapid design/build iteration and work with a world-class team.

You willbe a mission integrator for the Blue Ring spacecraft supporting one or more missions. Develop validation plans for launch and space interfaces, be main technical interface between launch provider and Blue Ring team, own spacecraft and launch vehicle requirements, ensure timely mission integration for launch.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as primary technical point-of-contact between the spacecraft and the launch service provider for one or more missions.
  • Develop SSCMAN 91-710 compliant Missile System Prelaunch Safety Package for vehicle bus and assist external customers with their submissions.
  • Assist with the development of systems engineering processes, ensure consistent implementation, and serve in a system integration capacity, working with multi-discipline teams to arrive at technical system solutions
  • Build, implement, and validate launch vehicle facing requirements for an ambitious, first-of-its-kind spacecraft
  • Identify gaps and risks in existing systems engineering processes
  • Succinctly describe and present complex technical content to internal and external collaborators at the requisite technical depths
  • Collaborate across multiple subject areas and space vehicle subsystems to ensure technical readiness to support mission achievements
  • Coordinate working groups, review boards, and design reviews among internal and external customers to resolve technical issues or retire risks related to mission integration
  • Act as program focal for day-of-launch coordination with launch vehicle contractor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics
  • 5+ years expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Launch vehicle to payload accommodation
    • Launch system development and integration
    • Payload final integration and/or launch operations
  • Enjoys a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment, capable of being a self-starter
  • Possess skills in strategic system thinking, excellent written and oral communication skills, proactive in moving the program forward through team collaborations to achieve timely decisions, ability to earn trust, and maintain positive and professional relationships
  • Active Top Secret (TS) / Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with polygraph
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel and work extended hours as needed to support launch campaigns and other critical efforts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in a relevant technical field
  • Successful candidates typically have 5+ years of experience
  • Experience working payload assembly, test, and integration in an ISO 7 clean room
  • Experience with mission integration execution, particularly NSSL missions and early integration studies
  • Experience working on the Eastern Range, including crafting systems and processes to align with SSCMAN 91-710 requirements
  • Experience working launch operations, particularly payload processing facility (PPF) or integrated (payload to launch vehicle) pad operations
  • Active TS/SCI Security Clearance
