Position Summary: The Building Services Specialist plays a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment at the Women's Residential Center (WRC). Under the supervision of the Residential Treatment Coordinator, this position is responsible for performing routine maintenance, minor repairs, landscaping, and general facility upkeep. The Building Services Specialist assists in identifying maintenance needs, coordinating with the Facilities department, and supporting special projects that improve the overall condition of the facility.

Education, Training and Experience:



  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience in maintenance, janitorial work, landscaping, or a related field is helpful but not required; on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Previous completion or willingness to complete safety training and learn proper use of tools, equipment, and cleaning/maintenance procedures.



Additional Eligibility Requirements:



  • Must complete a criminal history background check and receive authorization from the State of Oregon's Background Check Unit.
  • An active driver's license, current insurance, a reliable vehicle and ability to meet VOA Oregon's insurer's driving standards.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Competencies):



  • Knowledge of basic building maintenance tasks, including painting, minor repairs, trash removal, and landscape maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for staff and visitors.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety protocols and procedures related to general maintenance tasks to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of building infrastructure (e.g., doors, walls, floors, and basic plumbing fixtures) to identify minor issues and assist in basic repairs before they become larger problems.
  • Basic understanding of tools and equipment used in maintenance work (e.g., hand tools, power tools, ladders) to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Skilled upon receiving training in performing routine upkeep, such as patching walls, changing light bulbs, assembling furniture, and assisting with minor repairs, to support the overall functionality and appearance of the facility.
  • Skilled upon receiving training in safe and proper handling of maintenance supplies and equipment to prevent damage, extend the life of tools, and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Skilled upon receiving training in communication to interact effectively with team members and building occupants to coordinate maintenance activities and provide excellent service.
  • Skilled upon receiving training in time management to complete tasks efficiently and meet work expectations to minimize disruptions and maintain operational effectiveness.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision to ensure timely and effective resolution of maintenance needs.
  • Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures for maintenance work to maintain consistency and quality in service delivery.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas and storage spaces to improve efficiency and uphold safety standards.
  • Ability to assist in access control and security elements to assure the safety and well being program and its clients.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, furniture, and materials as needed for maintenance tasks to support facility operations and assist with event setups or workspace adjustments.
  • Ability to identify and report potential building issues to the appropriate personnel to prevent larger maintenance concerns and ensure timely repairs.
  • Ability to maintain safety and adherence to workplace policies and procedures to create a secure and compliant work environment for all staff and visitors.



Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, including painting, minor repairs, trash removal, and landscaping, to support the upkeep and appearance of facilities.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting maintenance needs to the Organization's Facilities department, such as leaks, damaged fixtures, or safety hazards, to ensure timely repairs and prevent further issues.
  • Perform routine cleaning and deep cleaning tasks, including common areas, exterior spaces, and workspaces, to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining outdoor spaces, including pruning, leaf removal, and general landscaping, to enhance the facility's exterior.
  • Help coordinate with vendors, contractors, or work crews by providing access and assisting as needed, to ensure work is completed efficiently.
  • Assist in preventive maintenance tasks, such as changing air filters, tightening loose fixtures, and checking for wear and tear, to help prolong the life of building systems and equipment.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in proper working order, ensuring they are cleaned, stored properly, and used safely to prevent damage and extend usability.
  • Keep accurate records of tasks, supply usage, and work requests, to track completed work and support operational planning.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including proper handling of chemicals, tools, and equipment, to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Support special projects and facility improvements, such as painting rooms, assembling furniture, or minor construction tasks, to enhance the functionality of spaces.
  • Assist with general organization and upkeep of storage areas, supplies, and equipment, to improve efficiency and accessibility.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and conduct when interacting with staff, clients, and visitors, to support a respectful and professional work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, adapting to facility needs and priorities to ensure smooth operations.



Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with arms and hands, stoop, stand, walk and sit. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions:



  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of residential center, outdoors, and shop conditions. Regular exposure to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and noise.



Schedule: This is a full-time position, 40 hrs. per week, to include some weekends, evenings or holidays, with ability to perform additional on-call services as needed.
