Role: Data Center Analyst Location: Rochelle, IL - 5 Days onsite a week Duration: 6+ Months Note: Must also be able to commute to the Naperville, IL facility when needed. Mileage is not compensated Role and responsibilities: * Perform data center operations and basic system administration duties. * Racking of servers, network devices and other equipment. * Cabling, clean cable routing and cable management. * Handling and resolving tasks provided via a ticket tracking system in ServiceNow. * Data center logistics, assisting with shipping, provisioning and decommissioning processes. * Hardware problem identification and resolution, working with hardware vendor support teams and submitting RMA requests. * Assist with asset and inventory management of hardware and data center supplies. * Respond to incidents around connectivity, power, and assist other teams with troubleshooting of devices. * Emergency response to system outages outside working hours. * Will utilize telecommunications test equipment, specifically Fluke network testers, t-berd, network analyzers, carrier circuit test gear capable of Ethernet/DWDM/SONET and cable media testers. * Will need to design and plan for new builds and migrations independently. * Conducting meetings with customers and platform teams to gather requirements of projects and be able to fully implement. * Manage projects via internal processes and utilization of ServiceNow. * Manage inventory and data center layout in a DCIM tool. * Must be able to complete all work with a high level of precision, there will be little to no tolerance for causing outages. * Will occasionally be the only person on-site, and will need to be able to resolve most issues without assistance. * Regular weekend coverage for change windows, 2-3 weekends a month. Occasional weekday implementations weekday nights after 7pm. Experience Level: Senior, 5+ years of experience in a data center. Key Competencies: * 5+ years managing physical infrastructure in large data centers * Expert knowledge in structured cabling (fiber/copper technologies and design) * Expert knowledge in physical capacity management around space, power, and cooling * Expert knowledge in cabling migrations Qualifications: * 5+ years' experience with physical data center infrastructure * Strong organizational skills, work prioritization, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly * Experience working with ServiceNow * Experience with change management * Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds when needed * Maintain a positive work environment, encourage healthy organizational morale, and promote adherence to all policies and procedures * Thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines and changing priorities * Understanding of core network design and topology * Strong, interpersonal, written, and communication skills * Ability to work weekends/off-hours and be on-call for emergencies * Expert knowledge of structured cabling, fiber and copper * Knowledge of data center power and cooling design * Experience working with electrical and low voltage cabling vendors * Experience with vendor management * Experience with data center migrations * Experience with DCIM tools (i.e. Nlyte, Device42, etc.) Tasks & Responsibilities: * Troubleshooting of cabling, power, and cooling of devices within an enterprise data center * Create and follow documentation and processes that are used in preparation, installation and cabling of systems * Validate successful installations * Interface with vendors and contractors directly and via ticketing systems * Pack/unpack servers, hardware, and other related equipment * Manage inventory of assets and parts * Facilitate inbound/outbound shipment processing * Attend and host team and vendor meetings to plan and schedule maintenance and repair work * Innovate solutions to help streamline current processes * Work with relevant groups to ensure all equipment is received and documented in a timely manner * Manage and execute on projects independently * Be part of an on-call schedule, and act as an initial escalation point * Oversee weekend work regularly * Ability to be flexible with schedule for unpanned off-hour incidents, emergency changes * Perform capacity management * Build bill of materials, work with vendors and procurement to purchase hardware * Design and execute solutions for data center hardware and systems * Coordinate with facility management on maintenance of critical systems (UPS, generator, cooling, etc.) * Provide various reporting to management (i.e. budget/spend, ticketing metrics, data KPI's, etc.) * Work with internal towers for projects * Conduct and attend engineering meetings * Act as site lead driving day-to-day activities as well as driving the entire lifecycle of projects * Coordinate with data center management on high level strategy * All work to be conducted on-site Additional details: Will need to have the basics down (cabling, racking and stacking, etc) in addition to "Project Manager light" work (run meetings, interface with customers) Some migrations may last up to a year, but various projects they will be working on planned work on 2-3 Saturdays a month - reliability and flexibility is key, will be on rotation for on call/fire call coverage about once a month |
