Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.

First Citizens Bank is hiring a Risk Officer to join our Regulatory Relations team, with a focus on Commercial Credit. This role serves as a key liaison between the Bank's commercial credit functions and the Bank's federal and state regulators.

You'll play a central role in helping the Bank prepare for and manage regulatory exams and supervisory interactions, while gaining exposure to senior executives and working across multiple high-profile credit areas. Our commercial credit portfolio is complex, diverse, and among the most interesting in the industry.


Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Act as the primary point of contact between internal stakeholders and regulators on Commercial Credit-related matters
  • Coordinate regulatory exams, requests, and communications in partnership with Credit, Risk, and Audit teams
  • Develop and manage responses to regulatory inquiries, findings, and follow-ups
  • Lead or support cross-functional initiatives related to regulatory readiness and process improvements
  • Prepare senior leaders for interactions with supervisory agencies

Qualifications

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to drive workstreams independently
  • Solid grasp of credit risk and enterprise risk management principles, processes, and controls (Technical expertise in commercial credit not required)
  • Experience managing complex projects and building or improving processes
  • Clear and confident communication with executives and regulators
  • Team-oriented mindset and comfort working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Financial Services, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Finance, or Accounting OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Financial Services, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Finance, or Accounting

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong business judgment, familiarity with banking regulations, and the ability to lead in a fast-paced, matrixed environment. We're looking for candidates with experience and success in one or more of the following areas:

  • Commercial credit administration or credit risk
  • Supervision and regulation
  • Internal audit or second-line risk oversight
  • Complex project or program management within a regulated institution
  • Leading cross-functional initiatives involving credit, risk, or regulatory topics
  • Professional certifications are not required, but applicable credential are valued (e.g., Bank commissioning, FRM, CRC, PMP, Six Sigma, etc)

The base pay for this position is generally between $98,000 and $160,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
