Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Project Manager, in the transportation highway industry, to work onsite at one of our large transportation clients in the Bay Area. This position will be on-site in San Jose, CA. However, you will also be supporting projects throughout Northern California.

As a Senior Project Manager, within the engineering and construction field, you will be responsible for various leadership and project management duties on highway, roadway, and Express Lanes (also known as Toll Road) projects. Phases of projects for which management will be required include feasibility analyses; conceptual, environmental clearance, preliminary and detailed design; cost estimating; construction support, and contract management.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:



  • Planning, organizing, coordinating, and working with technical and management groups in the delivery of a range of transportation projects, including Express Lanes project development activities.

Responsibilities include:



  • Developing and presenting deliverables to clients for status, updates, and reporting to a political board and sub-committees.
  • Managing project staff and design consultants to keep projects on budget and schedule and within agreed-upon scope.
  • Participating with senior leaders in the establishment of short- and long-term plans for the transportation program.
  • Through your project efforts and involvement in industry activities, developing and maintaining client relations.
  • Actively participating in and supporting internal and external development and training activities.
  • Coordinating with project's sponsors and stakeholders including, but not limited to, California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Santa Clara County, and cities to resolve issues and obtain consensus on project decisions.
  • Working with Resident Engineer and construction team to provide design support during construction of the projects.


The ideal candidate would have the following experiences:



  • Has minimum of 10 - 15 years of experience in design, project/program management, and project coordination. Construction administration experience is a plus, but not required,
  • Is licensed to practice as a professional engineer in California,
  • Is technically capable in highway design development, familiar with Caltrans project development procedures and processes,
  • Demonstrates interest in the development and maintenance of client relations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required and working as a team player is very important for this role.
  • Desires to work with multiple agencies to develop projects in a collaborative fashion.

The expected salary for this position is $137,000- $167,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
