Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in the area of psychiatry and is licensed by the State of Michigan. The psychiatrist completes psychiatric admission evaluations, discharge summaries, and medication reviews. Admission orders, discharge orders, medication orders, labs, and x-ray orders are written as indicated. The Psychiatrist provides psychotherapy with individuals, families, and groups as needed or requested by the staff team. Participation in treatment plan meeting is mandatory. Core Competencies

  4. Provides education as needed to patients, families and significant others.
  5. Attends mandatory in-services and a minimum of 75% of assigned committee meetings annually.
  6. Adheres to the PTO request procedures established for physicians so the time off can be reviewed monthly at the Medical Executive meeting to ensure ongoing coverage is provided for our patients.
  7. Wear name tag daily, dress according to the dress code and follow Health & Safety, Infection Control, and all HR Policies.
  8. Upholds dignity for self, patients, colleagues and others and utilizes professional and therapeutic approach to treatment, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, socioeconomic status or faith. Maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times.
  9. Meets mandatory education requirements.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Formulates an appropriate diagnosis based on history, psychiatric

examination, physical examination, and clinical findings.

  1. Psychiatrist provides leadership to the treatment team at least

three times per week and works cooperatively with the other team

members, community gatekeepers, case managers and other

health services involved in treatment.

  1. Prescribes pharmacological therapies appropriately according to

policies, procedures and best practices.

  1. Provides information/education and obtains informed consent for

psychotropic medications.

  1. Prescribes non-pharmacological therapies and diagnostic tests

in a cost effective manner, when needed.

  1. Writes orders in a legible manner. All written entries in the chart

must be legible to anyone reviewing the chart.

  1. Determines the effectiveness of the plan of care through

treatment team meetings and documentation of patient care

outcomes. Documents treatment plans to accurately reflect the

full treatment of each patient, i.e., signatures, dates, meds listed,

etc.

  1. Meets with each assigned patient at a minimum of five days per

week.

  1. Demonstrates openness to other team members constructive

advice.

  1. Discharge orders must be written daily by 12 noon to keep

discharges and admissions flowing in a timely manner.

  1. Consistently signs and dates all required areas in the medical

record i.e., medication reconciliation, treatment plans, H & P's,

etc. Responsible for medical records being completed 30 days

after discharge.

  1. Conducts doctor-to-doctor reviews on time as communicated by

UR to minimize the number of denied days by the insurance

Companies.

  1. Maintains contracted daily caseload.
  2. Assume Safety Responsibilities:
  • Report any/all safety concerns to Supervisor, Loss Control Coordinator,

Maintenance and/or EOC Committee member.

  • If injured, will complete with supervisor an Employee Accident Report and

submit it to the Loss Control Coordinator.

  • Will report accidents to the Loss Control Coordinator by the end of the shift or

within 24 hours of injury.

  • If work related injury results in a back injury employee will go through the Back

Injury Prevention Training with the Staff Development Coordinator.

  • If injured, will abide by the Return to Work/Light Duty Program guidelines.
  • Will abide by the Hospital's Safety Policies.

Other Job Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a consultant, as requested, by other agency

staff, providing education about psychiatric medication,

psychiatric conditions and caregiver interventions.

  1. Assumes teaching role in educational offerings.

Physical Demands of the Job

Light lifting. Various use of equipment (facsimile, computer, telephone, photocopier). Physically and mentally demanding with prolonged extensive or considerable sitting, standing and walking.

Working Conditions

  1. Normal office conditions exist.
  2. Ability to lift 0-25 lbs. Materials may include but are not limited to minor office equipment, files, computer paper, supplies.
  3. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Must be able to handle emergencies or crisis situations.

Minimum Skills, Experience, Licensure and Education Requirements

  1. Possess M.D.
  2. Licensure by State of Michigan as a Licensed Psychiatrist
