The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Pay Range: $54,800.00 - $82,200.00

Job Description

What You'll Do:

The Associate Video and Podcast Producer will be responsible for assisting in the producing of highly engaging video productions with excellent storytelling, including digital shorts and promotional videos, podcasts, educational and training videos, and feature length documentaries. The Associate Video & Podcast Producer will utilize their professional skillset to produce and deliver content using a variety of formats while following industry best practices. This role will work collaboratively with the studio production teams, studio clients and partners, presenters, and technical staff to achieve exceptional results.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Use creativity and artistic vision to tell compelling stories by producing world-class videos, podcasts, and animations. Identify compelling stories for development of videos, live broadcasts, podcasts, and more.

  • Guide videographers, editors, animators, and audio engineers in utilizing professional camera techniques, lighting, video editing, color grading, graphics and titles, audio post-processing, music, effects, and foley.

  • Create and manage vision for the entire video production process, including concepting, directing, shooting, interviewing, location sound capture, photography, editing, color correction, audio post-processing, motion graphics, animation, exporting final deliverables, thumbnails, caption files, links/embed codes, and backing up projects using studio guidelines for organization and meta data tagging.

  • Work closely with WGU Studio Managers and Producers to establish budgets, timelines, contracts, and strategic plans for video projects.

  • Follow direction set by Producers and Studio Managers, ensuring alignment with the overall creative vision of the projects.

  • Demonstrate a highly proficient level of independence, utilizing skills and knowledge of social trends and marketing trends to contribute creatively to video production.

  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to tough but constructive feedback, refining work based on input to enhance the overall quality of video content.

  • Schedule and facilitate audio recording sessions for narrated voice-overs.

  • Lead productions and work with actors and non-actors on camera in video and photography settings.

  • Follow media production protocols regarding media permissions and waivers.

  • Implement and apply accessibility standards for videos, work with captions and transcripts.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for process improvement, social media best practices, and platform-specific requirements.

  • Responsible for communicating and effectively collaborating with team members and stakeholders at all levels to ensure a smooth transition from initial concept to final deliverable.

  • Develop, review, and filter creative briefs, assess new requests, partner with internal clients to gather necessary information.

  • Create scripts breakdowns, project timelines, production schedules, budgets, call sheets, bid requests, and estimates.

  • Co-develop scripts for videos and voice-over recordings alongside clients.

  • Create comprehensive runs-of-show for live, as-live, and broadcast productions.

  • Contact and coordinate with university leaders, employees, students, employees, and other subjects to schedule video interviews and shoots. Coordinate with other university departments on the strategy and implementation for video projects.

  • Manage the communication process within teams between stakeholders, studio, and participants, including status updates on existing projects, identifying project-related issues and concerns, setting expectations, and arriving at mutually beneficial solutions.

  • Prioritize numerous and overlapping projects, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and foster and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers clients, team members, and partners.

  • Effectively communicate data in marketing and editorial videos to make complex concepts compelling and understandable.

  • Develop and research best practices for workflow, process improvement and overall team efficiency.

  • Assist other producers and management in utilizing industry best-practices and establishing department production and post-production workflows.

  • Assist other departments as directed, including live-broadcast stage directing, generating live-event runs-of-show, produce podcasts, and more.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities You'll Need to Be Successful:

  • Ability to produce and lead vision for corporate, commercial, documentary, educational, training, product demo, UI, explainer videos, virtual broadcasts, podcasts, live shows, and more.

  • Understanding of principles of storytelling, visual and interactive design, including composition, typography, layout, color, motion, and audio.

  • Understanding of video and podcast production processes, including videography, photography, video editing, audio capture, and post-production.

  • Understanding of virtual and live-event production processes, including creating runs of show, stage directing, talent coaching, tech directing, event videography, photography, and live-audio capture.

  • Ability to continually learn and adapt in a constantly evolving media environment, including new production techniques, industry best-practices, and various software as needed.

  • Knowledgeable in remote workflow applications such as Frame.io, Streamyard, Riverside, Proofhq, Airtable, Slack, Zoom, Webex, etc.

  • Knowledgeable in project-management software such as Asana, Jira, Basecamp, ClickUp, or comparable.

  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Davinci Resolve a bonus.

  • High-level problem solving, high attention to detail, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

  • Strong leadership skills; acts as a trusted advisor to team members, peers and business partners.

  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced team environment. Critical thinking and strategic prioritization skills are mandatory.

  • Aptitude for finding creative solutions to complex problems. Must work well within a collaborative environment.

  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, ability to exhibit diplomacy and decisiveness.

  • Foster and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers and/or partners.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Film/TV Production, Communications, Multimedia, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience as a producer or project manager with a video studio, creative agency, events team or similar. Experience can be in producing, directing, videography, event planning or similar, with a demonstrated focus on high-level, detailed project management.

Experience in lieu of education:

Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.
