Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Provost Shared Services office plays a crucial role in advancing the instruction, research, and public service missions of the centers, institutes, and programs (CIPs) at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We provide expert fiscal leadership, safeguard the University's financial assets, and ensure compliance with regulatory and HR policies. By offering HR counsel, maintaining regulatory and financial oversight, and delivering timely services, we support the success of both internal and external stakeholders. Position Summary |
The Accounting Technician Advanced will be responsible for directing, guiding, and managing daily business and financial operations in the Provost Shared Services office. This position is responsible for assigned units as well as the backup for the remaining units in processing daily financial activities. These actions include but are not limited to accounts payable/receivable, handling purchasing requests, processing gift and grants, managing online journal entries, executing budget revisions, and facilitating interdepartmental fund transfers. This position is also responsible for supporting the Director by actively contributing to the creation, submission, and review of the annual budgets for Provost Shared Services units. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Knowledge of accounting methods, procedures and accounting practices including double entry accounting, ranging from posting to account ledgers; reconciling accounts; verifying entries; maintain and controlling general ledger accounts, reports, registers, and statements; and working with financial accounts moderate to advanced variety and complexity.
- Knowledge of accounting and other software programs eg,
ERP, Excel, Word, Access, and accounting systems.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
-Experience working with PeopleSoft and InfoPorte.
-Previous accounts payable experience.
-Considerable knowledge of the University's accounting methods. |
