The Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing, directing and auditing the Company's North America Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs to effectively understand EHS risks and relevant controls to mitigate EHS exposures while ensuring compliance with various regulatory agencies. The manager, through the coordination of various resources, will provide oversight and assistance to all levels of management on safety matters ranging from training, hazard assessment and correction, accident investigations, inspections, analytics and strategic, incident prevention programs.

Key Functions

  • Assist with Front Line Leadership. Human Organization Performance Training
  • Implementation and visibility of the company's injury & illness prevention program
  • Investigate serious incidents, accidents and injuries and notify management of pertinent details.
  • Keeps apprised of developments in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the company.
  • Acts as company representative in dealing with government agencies on safety and health matters affecting the company.
  • Assist division management with understanding OSHA regulations and standards and provide guidance on OSHA compliance, inspections and citations.
  • Enhance and perform Corporate Safety Audits (travel required). Present findings and recommendations to management while ensuring buy-in on action plans for required corrective and preventive actions.
  • Instruct in the methods and procedures of safety practices, hazardous materials management, and worksite compliance.
  • Develop and implement safety training programs for regulatory compliance and reduction off incidents and costs.
  • Review accident statistics to identify loss trends and establish target areas for long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives.
  • Work with claims management to follow high-cost or precedent-setting cases.
  • Develop annual loss control plan and direct various third parties for thorough and successful execution.
  • Use judgement and discretion to understand situations accurately and take effective action.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in warehouse and transportation industry, developing and implementing safety programs across multiple sites/States, preferably in a corporate capacity, for regulatory compliance, standardization, loss reduction and safety culture improvement.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and DOT required.
  • Proficiency with Mircrosoft Office tools (Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with a Safety Management or Learning Systems required.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to collect, organize, review, and disseminate safety and regulatory information.
  • Excellent verbal, written and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field is preferred

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) status or have ability to gain professional certification (ASP, CSP, CIH, etc)

Travel:

  • At least 50% of travel will be required within the North America market
