Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a senior level Systems Engineer at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) near Greenbelt, MD to support IT and Systems Administration requirements of the Laser Communication Relay Development (LCRD) project. The selected candidate will be responsible for general ground system and operations engineering support for LCRD experiment operations.

Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA SENSE contract managed at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). This contract supports operations at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. WSC operated satellite ground terminals that ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA's orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC also supports a satellite ground terminal for the STPSat-6 satellite and has a Mission Operations Center (MOC) for its LCRD payload. The MOC conducts laser communications experiments and the GSFC support staff provides sustainment support for the MOC ground systems supporting the payload operations via the LCRD MOC - Extension (LMOC-E) at GSFC.

This position will be responsible for the following:

    Proactively identify and work LCRD systems-level technical issues that may present operational risks and impact experiment operations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the MOC and assist with performing operations engineering/payload analyst duties.
  • Support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with the Experiment Manager.
  • Provide leadership in support of resolving anomalies observed during experiment operations and participate in any investigative teams established to determine root cause and assist in developing the plan for resolution.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Education/Experience: degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, or other related technical field and related experience is required as follows: 6+ years' experience with MS/MA degree, 8+ years' experience with BS/BA degree.
  • Occasional business travel may be required.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance, which requires US citizenship.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with LCRD.
  • Experience with Low Cost Optical Terminals (LCOT).

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
