Job Summary

Under the direction of the director provide leadership, instruction and care for youth 3 years - 12 years old. Primarily serve as the lead group worker for a preschool and/or school-age group. Provide supervion and coordination of the Evening/Weekend care program. as the director designee for the evening/weekend program. This positions operates during Fall and Spring semsters and is a 9 month position.
Job Description

  • Open and close evening/weekend care program on time every evening during the program period
  • Serve as a classroom floater when needed.
  • Organize program materials for lessons and activities, as well as document attendance, incidents and other observations for ages 6-12.
  • Deliver dynamic daily curriculum to engage children ages 6-12 in academic and social character-building that expands school day learning in a meaningful way.
  • Using your coursework training, model positive guidance and effective classroom management to maintain the safety, well-being and attention of all children while supporting homework completion, leading fun fitness activities, and guiding children at play.
  • Excellent communication skills with a varied audience including children, parents, staff and school personnel.
  • Model positive guidance and effective classroom management to maintain the safety and well-being and attention of all children.
  • Meets regularly with the Program Director regarding professional progress and team accountability.
  • Completes all required training and professional development required for compliance with DCFS licensing and Head Start requirements.
  • Maintains compliance with all DCFS licensing requirements.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or higher in Child Development OR
  • Associte Degree or higher in a related field with 21 semester or 32 quarter hours in courses related to child care and/or child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields, OR
  • Sixty semester or 90 quarter hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 21 semester or 32 quarter hours in courses related to child care and/or child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields, including courses related to school-age children.
  • Have or be able to attain IL Gateway Level I Director Credential
  • Outstanding customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Drive to inspire a love for learning and commitment to healthy living.
  • Ability to meet state-specific requirements, CPR, Mandated Reporter training, TB test, Background Checks.
  • Knowledge of Teaching Strategies (TS) Gold, desirable.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum, desirable.


Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Ed
Bachelor Degree in Elementary Ed with 18 hours in ECE or Child Dev
IL Gateway Level II Director Credential
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of child development for children ages 3-12.
  • Pedagogical content knowledge for curricular areas for grades Pre-K-6th.
  • Knowloege of recreational curricular for Pre-k - 6th grade
  • Ability to individualize instruction, guidance, and support for a variety of learners and ages.
  • Ability to meet all Univerisity and IL DCFS state-specific requirements, criminal background check, CPR, Mandated Reporter training, TB test, etc.
