Welder (Aerospace Components)
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Location: Branford, CT
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty.
- Perform complex welding tasks to support the assembly floor and the engineering department in product development activities.
- Detects and reports questionable conditions or defective materials to the department supervisor.
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
- Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required per the P. M. charts.
- Must be completely familiar with the welding machine and capable of making all his/her own set-ups on production parts and prototype parts.
- Using TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), weld a wide variety of metals such as stainless-steel grades 321, 316, 347, Inconel series 600, 700, Alumel, Chromel, Titanium, and Aluminum
- Able to fuse, weld, and add wire to produce sound weld joints on very thin wall components and butt-weld very small diameter Alumel, Chromel,wire.
- Requires excellent hand to eye coordination and close mental and visual attention.
- Required to assist or train other welders when the need arises.
- The Welder will work on parts that belong to the HarcoSemco FAA Part 145 Repair Station and must meet requirements for the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) roster.
- Participate in training as required.
- Performs other manufacturing or assembly support tasks as required.
Education and Experience:
- Must be a "U.S. Person" as defined by U.S. Govt. and able to work without restriction with ITAR related data.
- High school or technical school education.
- At least 3 years' experience performing welding in an assembly environment preferred.
- Must have experience working in a highly regulated, or safety-sensitive industry, such as medical, automotive, or aerospace.
- Strongly prefer prior aerospace component or small-material/small-product welding experience.
Job Knowledge, Skills & Demands:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.
- Must be able to use hands to reach, grasp, hold, twist.
- Must be able to use hand tools.
- Must be able to see in Color.
- Must be able to meet visual acuity standards for Quality program.
- Employees in this role will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations.
- Must be able to push, pull, and lift at least 20 lbs., unaided.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- A welder's mask is required.
- Must be able to wear essential PPE for the position, including gloves, eye/face shields, hearing protection, and close-toed/close-heeled shoes.
Work Environment:
- Work performed in a temperature-controlled shop environment.
- Minimal to no exposure to outside temperatures or elements.
- Performs work in a manufacturing area, and near welder hoods/vents.
This position requires either a U.S. Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-U.S. person who is eligible to obtain the required export authorizations.
