The Department of Human Resources at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Director of Data Analytics and HRIS. This is a full-time position; remote work is expected with limited possibility of hybrid work.

Purpose

The Director of Data Analytics and HRIS is responsible for leading the data analytics and data warehousing department with particular emphasis on ERP and the HCM and Finance functions, ensuring alignment with the business's vision and objectives. This role involves overseeing all activities related to data analytics, providing strategic leadership, and driving data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Supervision

  • Oversee and monitor all activities of the data analytics and data warehousing teams.

  • Provide thought leadership and act as a subject matter expert in designing and recommending analytical approaches and methodologies.

  • Promote a data-driven culture and ensure the team is aligned with the business's goals.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement data strategies that support business objectives.

  • Provide management visibility into data-driven insights that inform the business's strategic direction and KPIs.

  • Determine the adoption of suitable tools and technologies to drive innovation and create a competitive advantage.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Engage with cross-functional teams, including human resources, finance, and IT, to identify data requirements and capitalize on opportunities.

  • Communicate data insights and analytics stories across the business to highlight the importance of data work and the actions that should follow.

Data Governance and Security

  • Establish comprehensive policies for information management, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.

  • Implement active and passive security measures to protect data effectively.

Performance Metrics

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness of data initiatives.

  • Use data analysis to support stakeholder decision-making and identify trends.

Team Development

  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Ensure constant improvement in professional skills and readiness for future leadership roles.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in data analysis, data mining, machine learning, and programming.

  • Experience with data analytics and data visualization tools, particularly Workday and PowerBI.

  • Strong understanding of data governance and data integrity principles.

Leadership and Management

  • Proven leadership experience and the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.

  • Experience in strategic planning and implementing data strategies.

Analytical and Problem-Solving

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field. 10 years of data science, analytics, or HRIS experience with at least 5 in a leadership role.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with analytics systems (e.g., PowerBI, SPSS, R, etc.). Prior experience with Workday or other cloud-based HCM systems and data. Experience working in a financial role at a health system or large integrated healthcare institution.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
